I was just wondering what might happen if you use the brf tek and in the center you place a wet vermiculite core for a resivoir but instead of using sterile water to inject it with you use a dextrose and water solution so as to also provide the mycellium with fresh nutrients also :rail2:

this is nonsense..
people used to do it..but what you are suggesting is flawed.
you want to replace substrate with vermiculite then add nutrients to the verm?

that would be the same as not doing anything.

That "Rez effect" is a miracle considering (In MY OWN OPINION how horrible cakes produce for the work put in )but its just for holing moisture, adding nutrients I'm guessing will just get you contamination in the middle of your cakes

I sometimes put a central column of verm to make rehydration easier.
But just use sterile water, not dextrose.

I believe mycelium takes in its nutrients, etc.  from the tips of the hyphae. so in a 3D surface this will be best if spread out evenly, since we are trying to maximize colonization within the substrate..

That will almost guarantee contamination.  If you want extra nutes in your cakes, add them when you make the cakes.  Using the reservoir is all right, but it doesn't even compare to dunking.  Good luck.

All his pics are gone but I found the link to what I am fairly sure was the old thread I'm thinking about by Fahster and the "Rez effect" >> http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6348002#6348002
