Aquarium Heater
    #1085826 - 11/25/02 11:42 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

im not sure if this is the right forum (i wasnt sure where to post it), so i apolgise in advance if it is.

the Question:

i have just found a 150watt aquarium heater laying around the house, but the plug end has been chopped off and 2 wires are left (a brown (live) and a blue (neutral)).

my question is....do i just stick a plug on the end of this and use it ?, what wattage amp will be needed?

im not sure what make/model it is, but it is made from 1 big glass tube with a black rubber bung in the end....just under the bung there is a small brass screw which i assume is how u control the temp and the cable is illuminous green...if that helps at all.

cheers for any help

Zed

If you are good with wires, then I assue you can put on a new plug, but if you aren't, why not just get a new one, they aren't all that expensive. A plug wired poorly or incorectly can be a great fire hazard.

yes i can hook up a plug alright......i wasnt sure if they went straight into a plug tho, or maybe to a big adapter.

i have never seen/used an aquarium heater before.

I just plug mine into the wall. But I have a 50 watt and 75 watt, not a 150 like yourself.

one of mine is a 250 and that just plugs straight into the wall.
All you have is a regulated heating element.
Same in some respects as a kettle.
You plug a kettle straight into the wall don`t you?

So how do you make a cup of coffee??
Do you microwave the water??
I personally use a kettle to boil water for coffee or tea.

I don't really drink coffee. I'm a coca cola man myself.
