Restocking Spore prints
    #1085253 - 11/25/02 08:35 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

It's been a long time since I've used my spore prints and syringes, a little over a year. If I were to innoculate jars, could I ignore contamination as long as I don't eat them? I simply want to make fresher spore prints. Will the spores be contaminated also?

How are you so sure they will be contaminated? If they are, then there is a good chance that the spores will be as well. If you have viable, but contaminated prints, why not just isloate on agar?

Well I'm not too familiar with growing on agar. I'm just asking if the culture was to be contaminated, and I let the mushrooms grow anyways, could I use the spores from them and get clean shrooms the next time.

If the casing or cake is contaminated, then there's a damn good chance that spores from the contaminant are present on the gills of the mushroom. Look into agar, its probably your best bet.

Syringes and spore prints should still be viable long after a year if proper precautions were taken in the first place
