just go to your local DHS office and apply.  your financial situation sounds similar to mine.  you should qualify for 12 months like i did

badass man I didnt know that they would just give you 12 months worth up front. I always thought they mailed them to your house every month or some shit. and I wont exactly have an address so I didn't figure I should even apply.

your food stamps wont work in canada..

however, in the right 'bad neighborhoods' you can use them to buy gas and cigs and beer.


go for the trip man, its a rewarding expierence, but a shitty lifestyle, so make sure that you have an end game..

i would recommend going out to cali, if youre unfamiliar with it, and living out side of golden gate park. theres actually a lot of people living in cars there, so youll probably have some cool, and or, crazy neighbors. i know i did :smile:

if you have anything illegal, drugs, make sure you have a very good stash spot, if not a magnetic box to hide them in under your car, with enough miles you are gauranteed to get stopped and searched. keep your ins up to date!

and, if you are mechanically inclined, helping stranded people on the roadside is usually always worth $5 to them :smile:

ive been a  nomad for a number of years, if there is any advice i could give you feel free to pm me for my number. oh yeah, always keep a working phone, and remember that there are still parts of the west that will KILL YOU. the desert and open lands can be a provocative temptress.

keep emergency supplies handy when you go off into state parks, remote areas etc, and always let someone know when youll be going into these areas, and when to expect you back.

I should be dead right now because i did not follow these rules, only pure luck, and perhaps fate kept me from dying a horrible death of dehydration.

I dunno why, and I've known you for a long time, but this really sounds deep. Perhaps one of the deepest things you've said.

I know that may sound like an affront, but it is simply profound. It is certainly not meant to say that you've never said anything deep before, however.

I'm not sure why - at all - and I'm not under the influence of any substance.

Do it while you have the chance.
I lived the nomadic life for a number of years from about the time I was 20.
I've had so many experiences and adventures and met so many great people that I wouldn't have met otherwise.
I wouldn't trade that time for anything.

Make sure you keep on your toes, keep your eyes and ears open, there are tons of wonderful people out there, there are also total sketchballz that will try and rip you off.
Have a "backup" plan with anything you do. Plan for the future but live in the moment, take good opportunities when you see them, help others.
Definitely solid advice with the emergency supplies. Be well prepared.
Generally the better prepared you are, the more "fun" you can have. When you're not solely focused on survival.
But that is sort of counter-intuitive as that whole life style sort of revolves around spontaneity and seizing the moment.
Just don't wander into the desert with no water, and go out there and experience life :sun:

:smile:  i used to live in arizona for 5 years or so.  i know how to take care of myself in a desert

I would love to smoke out at some of the places i used to go to.  sedona, etc. also get stoned while overlooking the grand canyon :gethigh:
