Does anyne knoe how safe it is to talk about drugs on your phone. I mean cops do need some sort of warrent to listen right? I mean I know that the federal government might be able to do it without one, but local and state cops have to have a damn good reason right?
Or is that just my wishful thinking. Something I've always known, but never put together is that anyone with a digital scanner, and even some older ones I believe are capable of picking up conversations being had on a cordless housephone. Mine is in the 900 Mhz rage, and I can hear it sometimes on an old scanner, by old I mean at least 10 years, maybe 15.
So how likely is it that someone selling small amounts of illegal substances would have law enforcement listening in?
I would assume that the cops could pick up your conversation, saying you were leaving to go deliver something, and then pull you over based on the call they listened to, but make up some minor traffic infraction just to stop you. No one would know they were listening.
Am I paranoid?

They need a warrant in most places for that. Usually done for big time crims.

FISA court approval is needed to listen in on domestic calls, per the wiretapping bill that Obama signed a few months back.

The chances are low.
But its a good idea to not talk about illegal substances on the phone. Even though the police are probably not listening, it is always polite use good security practices.
A ton of people that I know do it, and none of them have been busted due to wiretaps.
If you want to know what your chances are, read the 2008 wiretap report.

Also dont sms about drugs, they can pick that up much easier.
I suggest getting some prepaid phone with a different name to yours if you can so they cant trace it back to you. This was really easily done in Australia around 2-3 years ago although now you may need to provide a license number when registering a new sim. You can always use your friends sim or relatives...

Think you are paranoid?
Think again.

That's for serious crims not for everyday Joe Blow, they won't have enough resources to track everyone.

Faux news is a little fucked up on that one as usual. The FBI got a warrant and forced the cell company to push a hacked update to his phone, then listened in.
They weren't listening to a phone that was off, it only looked like it was off due to the hacked upated. When normal people turn their phones off, they're off.
Anyways, cops are dirty as shit. If you don't know that then you've got a lot to learn in life. I used to have a modded scanner that picked up cells. I also knew for a fact that the town detective had a much nicer one.
Weather it's legal or not doesn't matter shit. Everyone should know that. It's not what you know, it's what you can prove. And it's not weather it's legal or not it's weather you get caught.
Cops have no problem phoning illegally optained annonymous tips to each other or just claiming they got them. They will listen to your conversations and use that to bust you.
It's much less of a problem nowdays since it takes a much fancier scanner to pick up digital cell phones and they aren't really legal to have. Since cops just get wiretaps now they have no justification to have an expensive and illegal scanner.

It's so sad that in this country we are supposed to be free, and it's illegal to scan the airwaves for information thats just flying everywhere.
