You find it hard to believe exactly because of hubris. Not to mention unconscious death anxiety. (Read the all about it in Becker's book on the hero myth)

One can only speculate about potential. We may not have the potential you claim. We may be stuck being (emotionally at least) just what we are and have been in our known past. More hubris IMO.

Hmm.. I don't know. I try to look at humanity as one collective "entity" almost and I try not to look at history or myself in the narrow slice of time that I just happen to be born into. I do see things getting better, especially in the social arena, which is where human potentiality really strives.

And I think we can do more than speculate about potential. We're dissecting every aspect of what a human is. Once we get a complete understanding of the brain, of the body, of what makes us, us, than we'll be able to reshape it.

And that's exactly what could get us, as you say, un-stuck from our emotions. If we could redesign (either nanotechnologically, pharmacologically or whatever) and re-wire the brain, re-wire ourselves on a mass scale then there will be no frontiers that we can't conquer. This is very hard to do, obviously, but it's not impossible.. therefore it is a potential.

And technology is leading the way already.. I mean it's in the beginning stages, but we're getting more and more connected up on a global scale. Pretty soon we just may be able to hook our brains up to computers and start to do the things that I'm saying. Technology is going to lead us to places we can't even imagine today.

Maybe not in our lifetimes, but who cares. It's the collective human journey that matters most, not ours.

re-wire the human brain??? we dont know jack shit about the human brain.

Because I dont even like Iphones or whatever

I think the world is just gonna get shittier, haha... unless of course the state mandates that people stop fucking so much and the population goes down and we can enjoy some of our sucesses in the realm of thought and science without so much nasty human overflow

We know more than jack shit. I agreed we're just starting to figure things out, and technology is helping out a lot. But with sufficient time I don't think there's any reason to doubt we wouldn't be able to get a complete mapping of the brain and its functions and then start some reverse engineering.

Right now it's kind of like trying to explain the internet to someone who lives in the 18th century

iPhones aren't shit to what is going to be possible given the proper time for technological advancement.
What's going to happen is
drugs are going to start becoming more like computers
and computers are going to become more like drugs

If you're hip to psychedelics now I think you're going to love the emersive, virtual, augmented realities that are going to exist in the future.

As for population... We're all in this together, friend  Don't forget it

Crazy, I've never met anyone else who can actually see that there are no limits to the achievements that man is capable of

I've had many conversations with friends about technological development and they all believe that no matter how far into the future you go, we would still recognize what devices are being used for what - that we are at a point where we can't develop far enough away from where we are now that it would seem foreign. Bullshit, I say!

There will come a time, as long as we havn't been wiped out by a huge meteor, war, or bacteria & viruses, etc. that we will be beyond science fiction...beyond our wildest dreams, essentially. Imagine yourself 500,000 years in the future....6 trillion years, etc. The best way to put it is... is there a limit to our technological development? to discovery? OF COURSE NOT! and it's not hubris!! Whoever thinks that, I have to ask..do you think there will come a time when we are at a standstill, where nothing changes? socially, politically, scientifically, etc.? Absurd, IMO.

By Utilizing Laws and Punishment humans are conditioned to not act upon the temptations of the human condition. However, We rarely ignore them completely. I feast upon the blood of virgins in my mind on a daily basis.
