I've never used micropore tape for anything, but I use those other two. Doesn't really answer your question, sorry.

from what i've seen tape/tyvek is used for colonization/GE and then polyfill for fruiting/FAE.

Polyfill works if you put it in tight enough.
I haven't used micropore tape as the only filter, but i've had it cover holes in my tyvek filters before. works great. You could use it as the only filter on a lid with a hole(s), despite what was said above. ~P~

I'm not sure what is being said here. I can make a guess but what does GE mean?

That's what I guessed. So I'm surmising that what is being said is that micropore tape would be suitable for most purposes where gas exchange is required (eg. agar, grain jars, bulk subs) but would be unsuitable for covering up the holes in tubs where greater FAE is required and polyfill may be more suitable. Personally I love using micropore tape. It's so easy and convenient to use that I don't know why anyone would mess around with tyvek or polyfill.

Take some micropore tape and put it up to your mouth and try to breath through it. This should make the answer of why tyvek or polyfil is used for FAE.
I tape tyvek over GE holes with micropore tape though, I am sure it doesn't hinder it in any way but after trying the above mentioned exercise, I doubt it is necessary.

tyvek is not used for FAE. try breathing through tyvek
Infact, the only reason polyfill is even used in monos is because of the large holes, which would dry out your sub quickly if left open.
You can however use much smaller holes instead and leave open, and have more of them.
