Getting a little belly

Well it's happening! All those years of drinking and lounging around have caught up to me, I'm developing a beer belly.
Is it possible to get rid of it? What would you suggest to someone new to working out? I've been doing sit ups and it seems help with toning, but the belly is still there!
Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm not fat, I don't eat fast food. I'm at 8% body fat, I'm just getting a little beer belly.
And I exercise daily by riding my bike everywhere!
I think I'm pretty good, I just want to get the stomach down a little.

You're at 8% and have a beginning beer belly while working out? Is it really fat, can you grab it?
I don't know how hard you partied, but one cause of a belly in people who dont have a high fat ratio is Ascites which in our lands of abundance typically is caused by beginning cirrhosis of the liver.
If you even remotely suspect it might be anything other than fatty tissue (such as fluid buildup in the peritoneal cavity) you must get it checked out on short notice to rule out things like liver problems - especially if you have a long history of serious drinking.

Do you think drinking ~4 beers a day would cause cirrhosis? Most of the time I'm not getting drunk but I have a few beers throughout the day. I get good and drunk maybe 2 or 3 nights out of the week, having around 12 beers or drinks.
I know I need to really cut down on the drinking.
Thanks for the info

So, stop drinking beer?
If you are at 8% BF you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just don't over-eat/drink and keep doing what you're doing if you're already at 8%~!

It doesnt seem like extreme drinking, but its definitely in the risk area especially if it goes on for years. The advised maximums are 25ml alcohol a day, being one pint of lager.
In this usage pattern you have a consistent load on your body's system (4 a day every day) with going in the red 2-3 times a week (12 in a night)
Some drink more and have no trouble, others drink less and get Korsakoff's.

assuming 12.5ml alc per glass x 44-52 glasses a week = 550-650ml pure alcohol a week (two Fifths of vodka equivalent) where 175ml is the advised maximum.. It's not something you should sustain for long. If you drink like this for decades, the least what will happen is dumbing down.
As to exercise, alcohol reduces natural testosterone level and muscle tone.

I don't think you know what 8% body fat is. If you have anything less than say 15% you don't have a beer belly.
My suggestion. Do weights 3 times a week, cardio twice a week for 30 minutes, eat less, and increase protein to 1 gram per pound of body weight. Taking 2 tablets of fish oil 3 times daily will accelerate the fat loss a tiny bit. Forget the sit ups to lose belly you cannot spot reduce body fat.

Still, if that 8% is correct, he has the swollen belly.
In the spirit of OTD I'd say megacolon with a 20 pound fecal impaction - but either its fat thats unusually distributed for an 8% or its something else.

My 20 year old son has right at 10-12% body fat electronically measured. You cannot hardly pinch the skin on his stomach to get any between your fingers let alone there be any belly at all. It is all ab muscles.

4 beers is 600 calories. 12 is 1800. Over 7,000 calories a week from beer. An average of 1,000 calories a day from beer. Either stop drinking or stop eating.

Keep your total fat from daily cals to 10% or less. In other words, eat a low-fat diet.
How much do you bike? To see belly muscles, you need to burn the layer of fat on your stomach, which may require more cardio then you are currently engaging in.
If you're at 8% body fat, you should be able to see your ab muscles. If not, I would suspect something is up internally with your guts.
Laying off on the beer will probably feel pretty good to your body.
Good luck!

And I can't pinch it either, but I've just noticed that I lost my 6 pack and have gained about 10 pounds in the last year or so.

I have a little belly too. I've been riding my bike almost every day and doing crunches a couple of times a week. It's the first time in my life I haven't felt fit and it sucks.
Hardcore bike rides make me feel incredible, and I think it's keeping the belly under control.... my diet plays a big role too. Less junk, more fruit = flatter.
