mycelial acid
    #1083912 - 11/25/02 10:07 AM (14 years, 11 days ago)

I used a metal bread pan to house a straw casing. After the casing was spent I removed it from the pan and was surprised to find this:

The myclium had etched right into the metal of the pan, leaving straw shaped grooves. These are not scratches; the metal has actually been eaten away to a considerable depth.

Looks like I need to buy my wife a new bread pan.

The inside of the pan is lightly rusted throughout, except where the metal was etched. Those areas are bright clean silver.

I don't know what kind of metal it is....

yeah, looking at the pan i see it doesn't look like aluminum but instead one of those "non-stick" coated metal pans. it looks like the non-stick coating plus the oxidization-preventing metal layer got fried. i will stick to plain aluminum for sure.
