DMT woes

So SWIM finally crystallized some DMT which looks relatively pure to the eye, and tried to vaporize the substance in a converted light bulb vapo. To which I'll try and describe the experience.

SWIM inhaled the first hit which seemed quite harsh, but remembered hearing that it was like that and to just go deep and slow. Halfway through the hit SWIM noticed his tongue go concernedly numb along with an intense burning all down his throat and in his lungs. SWIM immediatly stopped the dose there due to thought of possibly extracting some of the lye mixture or possibly using the wrong kind of lye that had another additive.

Whats left in the pipe is a oily residue to which SWIM believes could be melted DMT. Is there any chance to save whats extracted with possible recrystallization? Also any thoughts on the adverse reaction? This is SWIM's first time and generally upset with how it went, and sore.

it felt like it burned the shit out of my tongue and lips when i smoked it the first couple of times. it actually stopped me from breaking through because i kept thinking about the burning feeling.

Thats what wrong with vaping in a oiler... get a steel bowl with water bong....layer bottom with ashes put dmt in...put ashes on top.....heat outside of bowl for 15 sec then light the bowl like normal...when you run it through the water the harshness falls out...:rockon: cheap water bong works

these are perfect...about 5- 10 bucks

A butane torch lighter works well for heating the outside of the bowl also. Makes you feel like your blasting off when lighting.

Fact: I know something drops out when runnig the vapor through water....win.:winner: win situation because without the smoke being harsh the user can take an extremely large hit.

SWIM believes it was just a sensation due to it subsiding. SWIM will scrape up the resin with a razor and spread inbetween some mj and load into a glass bong filled with ice and water. He'll report back. Can he just hit like normally hitting marijuana or is a technique involved with holding the flame away from the bowl? Plus he only has glass bowls for it.

He would've thought the glass bulb would be more efficient at spreading heat and making it less harsh and better consistent vaporization.

u could have inhaled some of the material.....i did that once with the bulb and had to think i would never swallow again during the trip


i said it once and say it again....the 'machine' has been given great reviews for a reason.....make one!

so your finished product is a resin, not crystal? what did you extract from?

No, actually he extracted white crystals, when scraped they were white, maybe a hint of green but not much. When attempting first vapor you may be onto something about inhaling the material. After all the DMT melted down it just looks kind of like an oily residue, but surely its just from melting into a puddle.

no the shit is just extremely harsh... just use ashes from ur weed or cigs...helps it burn better... make sure you have a fresh screen on ur pipe....glass should work....the one great thing about the steel is you can heat the outside of the bowl...until you get the dmt almost smokin and then blast off...

i did an extraction at a friends house once. the spice was perfect. but after making the ride home the spice had oxidized from getting too hot (90degrees). this made the spice unbearable to hit. it felt like swallowing razorblades to anyone who hit it.

this may not be your problem, just thought i'd throw it out there.

it might be that you over heated your dmt. i've actually burned the roof of my mouth with this shit pretty bad. my friends were smoking the same light bulb with me and they were fine.

Hint #1:  When using any device where inhalation of powder may occur, PRE_MELT (with very brief, light heat) the powder into a viscous oil.  Then hit that instead.  No chance of inhaling powder.  :thumbup:

Hint #2:  If you did a careful extraction (and I'm assuming you did) there is virtually no chance of lye in the final product.  Even if there was tiny amount, taking hint # 1 will eliminate the problem entirely.  Spice vaporizes at a very low temperature.  Lye does not vaporize with that mild a heat and will be absent from any smoke.

If there is any concern whatsoever, do a carbonate wash.  Its $1.69 for 2 ounces of calcium carbonate, and you need only a microscopic amount to do the wash.

Actually, what you want is sodium carbonate, not calcium carbonate, although the latter will work, the sodium carbonate is preferable.  I mis-spoke when I wrote calcium carbonate.

Sorry for any confusion.  Sodium carbonate is also ultra-cheap.  Here is what I learned from a PM from a highly respected source.

"Calcium carbonate isn't very water-soluble, so your carbonate water will be cloudy with undissolved calcium carbonate, but it will raise the pH just fine.  It's entirely possible that some of the particulate calcium carbonate will end up in the naphtha phase, but that's really not cause for concern.  Calcium carbonate is quite stable to heat, so the product is quite safe to smoke even if it has some calcium carbonate in it (I've seen it recommended that bufotenine be dissolved onto calcium carbonate to make dosing easier (considering the tiny doses at which vaporized bufotenine is active).

So basically the product may not be quite as pure, but it will still be clean and safe to vaporize."

interesting. i've never had to do a carbonate wash, but i assumed that hot water would have to be used to dissolve the soda ash. never thought about sodium carbonate before.

since calcium carbonate is sold as soda ash, what would sodium carbonate be sold as?

Brew rite coffee maker cleaner=100% sodium carbonate...$4.5 any wal-mart

500 ml combined extracted naptha in jar... 75 ml distilled water in another jar. Take any butter knife....put a pinch on the end like your going to snort it off the end.(no exact measurement)Add to the 75 ml distilled water stir till dissolved. Add to naptha jar. shake VERY WELL. Let it settle for 5 whole minutes. suck the separated junk(discard this) off the bottom with ur pipette. This is when u know why this procedure is performed.

Repeat twice more with 50 ML distilled water ONLY. YOU CAN EVAPORATE AT THIS POINT on pyrex flat dish. once it gets down to where the solvent will not move on the dish. either put in the fridge or freezer...leave it alone for a week until your sure all the crystals have formed

I think smoking out of a bubbler or bong would help you, or refining your vap pipe technique :wink:

The vapor can kinda leave the toungue feeling a bit "coated" its a weird sensation but shouldnt be that bad if you do it right. Also, hitting it well is important, in my experience 4 or 5 good deep and steady hits held in for as long as possible works best. Going at it and hitting it too hard doesnt help, keep it steady and blast off 4 or so nice hits back to back and you will be fine :wink:

Also ...i would like to add that the ashes are going to be ur catalyst. For burning the spice. I think the mj would work but it would have to turn into ashes before it would properly burn...

THROW THOSE LIGHT BULBS AWAY!!!

Dmt is insoluble in water... so after the smoke runs through the water ....all ur impurities are in the water... and you will get clean smoke...

Alright, so I (sorry for the SWIM, never to careful :laugh:) realized that the greenish tinge to the crystals was from the lye solution getting sucked up with my naptha. I realized this after hitting 10 mg of the pure white dmt crystal (rather than the greenish hued crystals) and received the most warm feelings of ecstasy coat my body with moderate visuals. I'm going to recrystallize since this must be the problem.

For those that have yet to try it, the lye solution is a horrible thing to inhale whatever additive greened my DMT, jeez, I can't even describe the harshness of it. However the pure white DMT was considerably smooth! My technique is fine, just the impure product. I have another 16 oz of MHRB on the way :grin: 

Practice makes permanent!  :thumbup:

Did you say in your first post that there was a green tint? A tint to a DMT crystal usually a bad thing, seeing as pure DMT crystal is clear and has no color.

Anyways, good luck. You're right, practice makes permanent.

You ever think to try maybe to use another plant that has a higher DMT percentage other than MHRB?

Information taken off of erowid, made a few minor adjustments to make it a little easier to read.

I also hear that 'phalaris arundinacea' is actually really high in DMT concentration, (a lot more than that chart says), so I'm not quite sure. I mean MHRB is high up there, but I'm sure there is quite a few other plants with higher concentrations.

Just saying, if you think MHRB is good for you, then you do what you think's best. I'm just trying to help a little bit. Personally.. I'd get Yopo seeds and just snort them, but its more of the bufotenine that makes you trip more than the DMT. Look it up, sounds interesting imo.

That greenish tint is commonly seen with additives to naptha...like in Coleman fuel.  Check your naptha quality immediately.  Use only VM & P or other naptha which is perfectly clean, clear, and contains NO additives!!!

The problem is your naptha, not lye.

actually my naptha is VM & P but my lye is some drain opener from home depot, I know the lye is the white balls but I think they have a faster acting basifier in there as well which is a bluish color, but it turns the top of my water green when stirring it in. Wasn't sure if it was bad or good, but when I extracted crystals I figured it alright. I must've pulled some on the lye water into the final product by accident. :badidea:

To prevent getting the lye sludge solution in your naptha extraction, if using something basic like a turkey baster, it is good IMO to pull carefully then if there is some excess let it sit a second over the container and the heavy solution will sink in the baster then you can gently squeeze that out... also you can squirt the naptha solution in a glass cup then let the sludge sink then pour that into your pie dish or whatever to form crystals. It helps keep it outta there...

But some of the yellow ish in the product could be maybe other alkaloids? Like maybe some "jungle spice" gets there? Or maybe it is dmt oxidized, i dunno...

I think you should scrap your whole project..the additives in that lye are unknown. You need 100% sodium hydroxide to perform this procedure...

for you safety..... just scrap it...start over...sorry man
