So I saw that a lot you like Shpongle. Weird name but what the fuck I'll download a song or two. wasn't too fond of them. I hate trance. So I gave em a second shot and picked up Tales of the Inexplicable and HOLY FUCKING SHIT. These guys have scraped the close-minded earwax clean out of those two holes in my head.
I can't wait to listen to the album and trip.
Too cool for school

I'm hearing ya brother; I listened to 'Are you shpongled' last week after smoking some kind bud and it was an incredible experience. I got completely lost in the music and it gave me a nice body buzz too. I haven't listened to it yet while tripping though, but I'm sure a lot of you have

HEY! Hicksville isn't a Shpongle album, you pirate!!!
Please people, don't pirate Shpongle - when you have it cd-quality there are details that LEAP out at you while under the influence of psychedelics that simply DON'T make it to mp3 - I think they're actually doing this on purpose now to reward those who buy the CDs.
Anyway, Hicksville is an album by Simon Posford (The techie from Shpongle; Raja Ram plays the flute..) and Youth, another electronic producer. The first track on the Hicksville CD is called Hicksville.
Celtic Cross - Hicksville is also a really cool album to trip to, but it comes nowhere near Shpongle. Both Shpongle albums MAKE you trip without drugs, and really knock one's socks off with them.

Even if it didnt sound better, its always good to buy the CD and support the artist. If you dont, they may not bother putting out another CD. I've got a burned Shpongle CD, havnt found it anywhere yet as you mentioned. I'll special order it, or get it online when I got a job... I'm a broke ass college student now.

You know its cool to say, "I don't believe in buying music because none of it goes to the artist." you can't say that with bands like Shpongle. These guys are not that well known and are on a smaller label. Support the artist and quit this download shit. Plus you won't be disappointed. I just picked up Are you Shpongled today and wha whaaaa whoaaaaaaa!!!!!!! awesome

On top of all that, Simon Posford (Most of Shpongle) OWNS Twisted Records, the label that Shpongle is released on.... So yes, they get money for these albums! Thanks to the good sales of Shpongle II, they're working on a 3rd one right now, and I hope they take their sweet time with it!

I'm most impressed with the really low lows and really high highs in these albums. Once you have it on CD, ride the very "top" or "bottom" of any given track and you'll see what I mean.
Also sound interraction is definitely impressive - sounds travel through and distort eachother in amazing ways - its very "locational" and "directional" sound. Sounds hiding behind other sounds, sounds waiting for louder sounds to come in and cover most of them before they get REALLY fucked-up... all sorts of drama and choreography I'd never dreamed could be possible with audio.

Xone you're only listening to the surface. Most people don't really pick up the depth of Shpongle until at least 10 close listens. These albums are way more detailed and layered than either Hallucinogen album (although the Lone Deranger is Infected Mushroom's favorite CD of all time )
And as far as how the production of Shpongle III is going, I'm not sure - www.twisted.co.uk is the twisted website, and they posted that Simon recently cancelled a live online mix because he was busy with Raja in the studio working on the new Shpongle That's all I've got
-=- Matt/Strumpling -=- You have to know the face of Shpongle before you start hearing the "trail"

If you would just sit down sometime and listen to both albums completely you would understand. Take that glow stick out of your mouth and drop that white pill. Drop it!! Drop it!! Ok good. Now eat a mushroom and smoke some pot. Put on those exspensive headphones and slap on Tales of the Inexplicable. Ok after that's over, go to bed. Do it!!! Now wake up. Call all your raver pill poppin techno Paul Okenfeld, DJ harmoney slap bum, friends and tell them the rave tonight is off. Here that, THE RAVE TONIGHT IS OFF!! Go to your local heroin dealer and get a sugar cube. Take that cube home sit at your desk and put on Are you Shpongled...not before you ingest the sugar cube of course. Smoke some pot.
Enjoy.
p.s. if that doesn't work go speak to Pink Floyd. Whatever you do, don't put on Aphex Twin....

Shpongle is a gateway drug. Who agrees? :P
I began listening to Shpongle before I even smoked pot. Back in the day, I essentially could have a trip just listening to Shpongle. I listened to the CD every night before I went to sleep.
Shpongle made me want to trip. I smoked pot first because I knew I'd need some practice before I could trip, and of course I also acheived my goal of tripping!
Anyway, Shpongle is a gateway drug!

I have never in my life heard music as deep and interesting as Shpongle. While on mushrooms every other form of music seems more or less meaningless. Flat, lifeless and without the depth I find in Shpongle.
I've tried psytrance like Hallucinogen and Infected Mushroom. But that just sound 'empty'.
I like both 'Are You Shpongled?' and 'Tales of the Inexpressible'... For me it's not possible to choose which one is best.
Shpongle are shrooms and shrooms are Shpongle. Enough said.

yes one evening Raja Ram and Simon Posford were really wasted, and Raja came in from the restroom and collapsed on the couch, claiming "I am absoLUTELY....... SHPONGLED!!"
Simon really dug the word (Didn't yet realize its origin) and instantly named their collaborative efforts "Shpongle," and soon after, their first album "Are You Shpongled?"

shpongle is incredibe...after reading a few reviews when searching for psychadelic tunes, I had to pick up both albums
the journey these cds put you on is extra sensory explosion (takes you everywhere)
I am goin to have to go with "are u shpongled" as my fave so far, and I am eagerly awaiting the 3rd album!!
if you like shpongle also check out some very creative psytrance from the following artists: ticon, x-dream, infected mushroom, kox box, etc etc...
x-dream is my fave out of the few mentioned

Yup, X-Dream is good.
Check out Etnica!
'Etnica - Triptonite' is a great song. There are about 10 versions of it...trip tonight, trip tonite, trip tonite, etc. im sure you can find plenty of different versions and spellings, DL 'em all and pick your fave.

Shpongle, to me, is the best music ever made... but I'm a little biased
I wonder if many of the songs are about certain drugs (well some obviously are). On Tales, this is less obvious than on Shpongled. But to me Star Shpongled Banner is about shrooms, and New Way To Say Hooray is about DMT. I wonder if each song on Tales is about a different drug? Flute Fruit is about the flute as drug

The Shpongle albums were born out of Simon and Raja's experiments with DMT, although they're both huge fans of the mushroom and lsd as well

Well, I think I gave in to this shpongle craze
First let me say...I HATE techno. I'm gonna speak honestly...I'm not very open minded about a lot of music. Someone puts trance type music on and it actually bothers me. I can't listen to it. I feel it's so horrible. BUT....
I decided to download a couple songs to see what it was all about. I had a feeling it was techno type music, but wasn't sure. I just finished listening to shpongle spores and hicksville. WOW!. I still don't like techno stuff........but this is different . I found a new instant favourite. It's very 'deep' music like you all say. It's amazing. I'm listening to it sober....and i love it. Definetly going to pick up those two albums when i have the money

Don't DL the album man. Support Posford and Raja or we won't get music like this if they see that no money is coming on. So please order it or buy it or whatever. besides, if you haven't noticed the posts at all, you will be pleasently suprised at the differences between the CD and the MP3s.
good luck
p.s. Talked to Shrumping and thought I would share. I agree with what he says. Tales is more of a spiritual, uplifting album while are you shpongled is more psychedelic and covers more grounds in terms of emotional range, ect. Shroom on one and then the other for two completely different effects.

you pronounce it like songle only with a hp in there ;-)
Sh Pon Gull - Shpongle.
oh and yellowsubmarine, I have to disagree with you a bit:
"Are You Shpongled?" is indeed more psychedelic, a bit darker of an album in general, and a bit crazier than Tales.
"Tales of the Inexpressible" is more uplifting and carries a wider range of textures and emotions than AYS, in my opinion.
I've studied both albums very closely, as is obvious to those who see me preaching Shponglism around the forum here, and really can't decide which one I like better - they're both so different. I thought Tales of the Inexpressible was better when I had mp3s, but after I bought the albums I realized how much deeper this stuff goes, and there's no way to judge which is "better."

I remember when Are You Shpongled first came out, I listened to it alot, but never really found the whole album to be a front-to-back listening experience. Then Tales came out... WOAH!
Some of the songs on Shpongled tend to "go crazy" in their second halves, ala traditional Posford/Hallucinogen style. It was like, the first half was so good, what happened??... I would just fast forward to the next song.
Whereas in Tales I like how the whole album nearly flows as one song, so I pick that as my favorite Its also got catchier melodies

************Shpongle Spores isn't even considered one of the "great" Shpongle tracks - man you're in for a treat with those cds
arent the BEST songs the ones that get no attention as a "good" song anyways, hehe at least i think so with most albums i buy, i end up completly loving one song way more than the single out at the time...and then theyll go and make that song as the 2nd single then i get sick of that song.....damn radio overplaying stuff ..........ANYWAY
i still havent bought a sphongle album even tho ive been meaning to for a while, ill prolly order it online next friday when i get payed, im just gonna get one for now, and itll prolly be their first one, then buy the 2nd cd and see how they evolve

Sometimes people piss me off SO fucking much around here. Just the ignorant retards
IF you paid attention...In the post before, I said I was going to go buy the two albums(because I had just listened to shpongle spores and really liked it). Then strumpling said something like, "that isn't even considered one of the best tracks. You'll really enjoy the albums for sure". SO...i went and downloaded the one album(and of course...it's awesome).
So basically saying...take your foot out of your mouth. I am going to go buy the albums

The 6th Revelation is the newest "released" Shpongle track - its on the Mystery of the Thirteen Crystal Skulls compilation project.... Its an excellent track in general - but doesn't really sound much like any of the other Shpongle stuff - there's not really as much sonic trickery involved.

First CD - "Are You Shpongled?" <- low-quality samples near the bottom of the page
Second CD - "Tales of the Inexpressible" <- low-quality samples near the bottom of the page
Both CDs are completely different, so if you don't seem to dig the samples from one, check out the other one anyway... and on top of that, every track is completely different, and these samples are very low-quality.
The only way to truely experience it is to take some psychedelics and actually listen to the real CDs.

lol, that is a very good point. shpongle is VERY different on psychedelics. the music seems ot be made to throw many weird sounds at you at once, but put them together in a nifty fashion. tripping kinda lets me hear every sound individually, but it goes beautifully together. yea, any music sounds different on psychedelics.... but shpongle takes up its own personality when i trip

lmfao. you two are able to incorporate Shpongle and CocoaShrooms into any conversation I have ever read here on the shroomery. are there any links to a document for making it? i kinda live with my parents, so its hard to make a cocoashrooms and not attract attention, heh. also, where does one buy pure cocoa? when i trip, i always go to my local kwik-e-mart for hersheys chocolate bars, heh, but that isnt pure cocoa either.... hmmmm

you "kinda" live with your parents?
and SnuffelzFurever,
yeah man I read in an interview with Simon Posford that his goal is to make music that when you're ON drugs will compliment and intensify the action, and when OFF drugs will make it sound like you're ON them :-D

does simon posford do other stuff besides shpongle? Listening to shpongle while lieing(sp?) down in a dark room sober is almost as good as lie(sp?)ing in a dark room tripping. Nothing is nearly as good as lieing(sp?) in a dark room listening to shpongle tripping :-)

When I tried the cocoa-shrooms we actually didn't listen to Shpongle, but I did notice one thing you had commented on earlier:
Those cocoa shrooms didn't really require me to use more mushrooms as you had suspected - the trip felt about the same strength as usualj - who knows though - maybe it was a bit of a lessened effect, but its always hard to tell.

>>>>So has anybody else actually BOUGHT the Shpongle CDs due to recommendations here on the forum?
I did, I bought both of them. I'm not a huge techno/trance fan but shpongle is amazing, and makes me strive to better myself as a musician and songwriter. It kinda forces you to think outside the box. I think my favorite now is tales, but for awhile it was shpongled. Hmm weird.
I think the albums are definetly designed to correspond to a trip. I've found that puttin on shpongled right before you peak, as your coming up is key. I try to avoid listening to that first track while peaking since, it already reminds me of an overwhelming peak! It's intense. Sphongle is very itense.

ahhhh you said it brother! Its so well-produced that some people don't even notice the special effects and trickery behind this music - no matter how loud you play these albums, there will still be tiny intricate noises. I notice that the more I pay attention to any given MINUTE of that album, the more detailed I notice it really is
re: track 5: listen a bit more closely man... lol its nothin like ricky martin - listen to the piano (mainly when its not on the spotlight) and listen to reverbs on everything, listen to the small percussion - there's loads of trickery in that track.
Its only salsa on the surface
oh and you'd mentioned the first track.. u still referring to Tales? Yeah man Dorset Perception of one of my favorite musical compositions ever A perfect lift-off and welcome-mat for ShpongleLand

A friend of mine tripped to Shpongle last night to celebrate the closing of a sucessful semester - he was blown away
He dug the Are You Shpongled? cd so much he went online right after it and pirated the newer album "Tales of the Inexpressible," which knocked his socks off as well, apparently
Make sure to spread the word, buddy - you know who you are

The first time I expeirenced Shpongle was right after the Allman Bros concert in august. I ate 2 hits of strong acid for the Allman Bros and at the end of the show ate another. By the time I got to the party I was going to after the show I was feeling the 3rd hit. My friend was determined to introduce me to Shpongle so we ran up into his room and listened to it. It was so amazing. Definitly for all the people who haven't experienced it..BUY IT. It's also really good driving music.
SUPPORT THEM AND BUY IT....Help them make more music.
