Panaeolus subbalteatus?

Habitat:
Where does it grow? In plants that have been enriched with horse manure.

Gills:
Brown/tan when young, turning black when mature.

Stem:
Few inches long, few cm wide.  Brown bruising, if any.

Cap:
Small caps to a few ones that are a couple of inches.  Some have cracked caps, while others are smooth.  Caps are tan/brown.

Spore print color:
Black

Bruising:
brownish

I'm not sure, those stems look all wrong for them to be subbs. Can you get a good shot of the gills?

I never give advise on a mushroom I haven't found myself (subbs are on that list). That said, I don't think they could be anything else.
They're just deformed due to the substrate being disturbed. Those small ones in the 9&10 photos are funky lookin, though they're no leucocoprinus.
Alan and curecat have hashed through heaps :shitstorm: along with cactu, koraks, and few few others that can spot subbs from a mile away.
They will know better.

Yeah, they don't look like any of the subbs I have seen during my research.

I can take some pictures of the bottom of the caps when I get home.

This thread is my last ID thread, with similar mushrooms.  All the prints have been jet black.

The ones in your last thread are subbs for sure, and these very well could be too. They just look quite strange if I do say so myself.

hmm, very weird.  I have seen some variation out of the mushrooms popping up, but they all had jet black spore prints.  Hmm.

I would say they are very possible subbs... i'm no expert on the species... and they do look a little bit odd, but those spore prints really give it away for me.

Wait for another TI to be 100 % certain.

With prints that black ide say Panaeolus sp for sure, Panaeolus cinctulus is a very good guess.

I've had my eyes open for them as well lately, it just seems that kind of weather.
It's been pretty hot here though, that would explain the split caps.

if the print was brown i would say it was definitely Agrocybe pediades, but since that is definitely black i have keyed it out to Panaeolus solidipes group because of the solid not hollow stem and what seems to be lacking a veil. i would recommend pictures of the gills and exact measurement of the specimen in standard or metric, please chose one .

I am not a trusted IDer please wait for one to confirm before you consume any mushroom.

Actually, I can't and I don't :laugh:

So are these pan. cinctulus? I'm inclined to say 'no'. The cracked cap surface just doesn't seem typical. So are they another (active) panaeolus species? Quite possibly so. Either they're a species I'm not familiar with, or the conditions have made them look all weird and funky so I don't recognize them. I'd love to see some in a more mature state and growing in more humid air.
However, as I pointed out above, I'm not a panaeolus expert.

Panaeolus solidipes is a good guess, suggested by dodeski.
It grows in composts and in horse dung.

P. antillarum grows in dung, I dont think ive ever seen it in a planter or compost though.

If it werent for the BLACK print ide say these have a striking resemblance to Hebeloma sp

Thats a big stem on that tree :smile:

yeah thanks Alan. Panaeolus antillarum  seems like the best match, although those spores are slightly smaller.

From my understanding, P. antillarum and P. solidipes are the same species.

Apparently these are edible but nobody really bothers eating or cultivating them.
