ID Request - VIC, Aust.

Greetings. Over the weekend I went out picking for actives for the first time with a couple of friends. We were way too late in the season it seems - lots of what I've got has turned out to be a bit old and grub-eaten :frown: But it was still a lot of fun. There were so many different kinds of mushrooms! It really showed how much we didn't know in terms of mushroom identification. But anyway, going by photos we'd seen and by their lovely blue bruising, we came away with some specimens. I am pretty confident that they're P. Subaeruginosa, but I thought it prudent to get the ID verified here (a very useful forum and website, by the way). Anyway, here we go:

Habitat: Radiata pine plantation logged and left ~5 years ago. Most were growing in medium length grass but a couple were growing on decomposing pine stumps. Most were growing solitary, but there were a couple of pairs.

Gills: A deep dark brown brown, quite uniform.

Stem: averaging about 7-8cm, thin, appear to be hollow, woody/fibrous in texture, colours ranging from light brown to dark brown depending on age, some had blue blotches while in the ground, particularly the pins. All bruised blue and darkened after picking.

Cap: most matures were about 3-4cm, but I did find an old one that's 7cm across! They're light, goldy brown in colour, often blueing at the peak of the cap, spherical, convex, I would say rubbery in texture, but they're half dry now. I didn't feel the caps when they were wet, sorry. :/

Spore print color: Spore print pending, but they appear to have made some of their own spore prints on the paper I was carrying them in, which look black/very deep purple.

Bruising: strong blue bruising on the cap and stem.

My apologies if these pictures are not optimum, but they're the best I could do with the camera at hand. I had some larger specimens but I've had to toss them due to deterioration and grubs! It sucks to have become interested in hunting right at the end of a season. :frown:

They look like subs if you having blueing especially on the smaller 1 You have subaeruginosa.Habit sounds Right aswel

They are all Psilocybe subaeruginosa. Those photos are good, you should see some of the bad ones.:smirk: Welcome to the shroomery too! :mushroom2:

I've got some pictures of the biggest that I found: Cap and gills. It doesn't actually look that large I guess, and it's quite deteriorated, but it would have been pretty awesome in its day. :laugh:
