Picked up some books for free the other day
    #10824008 - 08/08/09 05:38 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

So we went to have dinner with some family of my gf. who are from Fl. We went into this restaurant and they had a shitload of books in a bookcase for decoration. Second hand, purchased per pound, I bet nobody ever went through the titles.

So after dinner, I went to check them out and found a local translation of Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, William Burroughs' Junkie and The Heart of the Matter by Greene. So I asked the waitress if she was very attached to those books and if I could take them. So she said 'sure' and I walked out with these books for free.

That was actually quite nice. I may want to dine there again, so their marketing works. Although I doubt they're aware that they are wont to attract major potheads this way. :ganja:

Carl Sagan's First Contact sits amongst paper flowers in a pizzahut near here.

I have aquired many good books in this sort of fashion. Many retailers have books on display just for asthetics and common and uncommon titles appear often. Take a look at a furnIture retailer, or or any other kind of " home style" business location

Yeah, we're going to redecorate our kitchen, so I'll probably seeing some furniture shops in the near future. I'm going to keep an eye open for any freebees.
