poo in jars
    #1082455 - 11/24/02 09:17 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I read this post here, and I noticed the use of poo mixed with millet and verm. in the jars. Now, I know that this was not cubensis, but I see no reason why it couldn't work. It would be much less hassle for me to do this, instead of pasteurizing it, as my parents won't allow poop to be cooked in the house, and its starting to get cold out. This would also cut time down, as I wouldn't have to wait for the poo to colonize after the grain. i know it wouldn't have any of the beneficial bacteria, but I'm not looking to leave it out in the open.

Sounds good, I think I'll make some up tomorrow and inoculate with some karo water.

i was thinking about the same thing........but wont steralizeing the poo make it 10 times more likely to contam?? if so what size jars did you use?? you think you could do the alien substrait and make the jars 50% dung 50% substrait??  mind you it will still be in the half pint wide mouth jars. my baker would be very interested in obtaining some nicer fruits.

you could use the alien substrate in the jars and then case with pasteurized dung

It will make it no more contaminant-prone than grain, and its a lot easier to assemble for me than the alien substrate. I'm keeping it in a terrarium anyway, so the contamination is not a factor. I use pint jars

(Edit: jar size)

the resipe is for 8 jars so it was thinking of puting enough poo to make it strech for 12 jars (4 jars worth maby a little less) if you rehydrated the poo with some h202 and h20 you migh just beat the contam risk. only catch is you cant just inoculate with spores you have to use a mic. suspention.

everything worked out fine. i used a pint jar. i made a casing earlier with poo that i didn't sterilize, and a few days before it was 100% colonized, i started getting green mold on it. thats the third casing i have had contamed. im blaming the poo.
