Falls to knees holding arms stretched upward, then slowly places hands on ground. Repeats arm action.

if you harvest , make sure you do it so this patch can continue.just cut the buttons and leave the base and roots so they can regrow, also leave the smaller ones. peyote takes so long to grow and so much has been picked it`s getting rare
this is a wonderful patch , congratulations on a wonderful find

Chin, personally I couldn't resist digging up a couple with roots and potting them.

Go ahead, damn me, damn me to hell.

ya a couple , i`d probably like a couple around the house also, but they would still be growing so they wouldn`t be desroyed.i was refering to destoying the patch.
i had a friend that went down around laredo and brought a bunch back a few years ago and i went over to check them out he had picked the whole plant and cut all the roots off and destroyed the patch he found. i could have cried

i know its probably really wrong, but id uproot about half of them,  then fill the spots i uprooted with really good compost,
id do this sort of thruought the patch instead of one big clump, id only take the big ones, and give all the little guys room to grow and spread,
id then plant the big ones in pots and live with them in a greenhouse with a rickity cot and talk to them as my babies.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
oh yes, and id occasionally eat some.

hmmm, immagine just chowing down on piles of those. ive never done mescalane, ive also never heard of an OD on peyote. does anyone have any bad trip reports or OD cases?

there are no o.d. cases i have ever heard of with peyote. some indians eat up to 90 buttons in a night D.R. John Halpern of Harvard is doing a study on the long term use of peyote by indians ,this is to prove psychedelics are safe pysiologicaly.
one death after peyote consumption was cause by a indian man who had ruptured vains in his neck from years of heavy drinking after drinking some wiskey he ate some peyote and threw up and a vien burst and he bled to death. this death was ruled due to alcoholism not peyote.
that said i have eaten peyote on several occasions. very strong medicine, but it always gives me nasea.i prefer san pedro anyday. peyote has alot of alkoloids in it
and this changes the trip for me. it`s still wonderful ,but i prefer pedro.

In the interest in leaving the patch in its natural state, why not just snag the flowers when they're mature enough and grow from the seed?

MItch

To properly harvest peyote such as that you would slice them off just above ground level. Uprooting them would be unconscionable. You can also go plant any seeds you may find.

also, wild peyote has very, very deep roots so it would be impractical to put a wild plant in a pot. i've heard of them getting 15' deep.

it's verry refreshing to know that there even are still patches like that one left in the wild. i'm at a loss for (fitting) words.
[edit: don't know about all of you, but i'd eave that patch alone, it's older than any family member that any of you have known during your lifetimes.]
