Strain id
    #1081477 - 11/24/02 10:51 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

I'm not sure if this the right forum but I have a question related to strain type. I am new and have been reading alot of your posts. Alot of you refer to different strains of C. Cubensis but I am growing from a print obtained from naturally occuring species found in northeast Georgia. Anyone know what this strain is called? I clumsily made a print from a deteriorating cap but followed the PF tek to a T when making the syringe. The Mycilium seems to be growing very well.
Thanks

Might be a weilli. If so, have fun getting it to fruit indoors.

If so, any suggestions on fruiting temps? I am incubating the jars at 82F and was going to try to keep the grow chamber at about 70 - 75 F. Do you think this temp range could be succesful?

No clue, I've never grown them, let alone seen them in person.

Anyone else with info on what type I am growing? It would seem useful to know this when I am ready to fruit. The strain that grows here is dark brown to black(sometimes purple) in the center and white or light brown around the fringe. Black gills. Am I fishing in the wrong water?

From the pictures I've see, your discription doesn't really sound like a weilli, or any psilocybe I can think of.

oh, well weillii is a totally different species, so that's not it. If you picked p. cubensis from the wild then it's a new strain of your very own. People make strains by picking them from the wild and then isolating the strongest mycelium until they have a stable strain. If you pick it from the wild it's your very own.

My description may be inadequate. They look much like these only flatter and a bit darker. They get the darker coloration (more dark brown) and sometimes translucent flesh when they are over ripe.

they look kickass! Like I said they are not one of the strains you see for sale if you picked em from the wild.

So my assumption is that I should stick to the tek and go for broke. I guess worse case scenario, I can alway start over and try something different next time. Going my current route I should be mimicing close to the natural conditions that they grow in around here.

yeah dude go for it. Follow the PF tek exactly. And you are sure they are cubensis right? Cause if so then there's no reason to do anything differently.
