WHY Harvest the Flush???????

When you harvest your shrooms from a PF cake WHY do people harvest the whole flush and not just the shrooms that are ready to be harvest and let the rest of them grow and then harvest when ready?

in my experience the mushrooms all mature within 24 hours of eachother. I pick them when they're ready but they are usually ready within 24 hours of eachoter

It might be a hassle to dry them all seperately.

So a question I havnt seen addressed in the FAQ is:

WHEN to harvest abhorts?
Should I pick them off as they appear, or are identified as abhorts? Or should I wait untill the 'flush' is over then pick them all?

My cakes seem to have one or two good mushies growing towards maturity, but a whole bunch of younger smaller ones...they are all growing at uneven rates, even on the same cake.

I am afraid that the abhorts might rot, and cause contam if left on the cake too long.

Whats the ruling on this?

the caps on the aborts will soon change color from a healthy brown to a darker brown, then black. When you see the color changing, harvest the aborts just before you think they'll be black.
