Psilocybe subaeruginosa Cultivation
    #10790096 - 08/03/09 02:20 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Hi All,

Does anyone on here have any experience growing Psilocybe subaeruginosa. I've found a grow log and bits and pieces of information but nothing solid outlining the process from start to finish, has anyone had any success growing these with a particular tek. My experience is currently limited to PF Tek, is it possible they could grow the same way.

Cheers. :crazy2:

grow em on cardboard then transfer to woodchips  im half way through the process have some myc stating to sprout from a few old stubs of dirt containing myc. this is the tek i followed when i started out.

Tek i followed Make cardboard spawn with all of your finds! Tutorial.

Also im growing subs at the moment if you want to see something with things that do and don't work.

This species is very difficult to cultivate indoors and will need temperatures of around 8-12 degrees celsius before fruiting will occur!
It will be a long term experiment with wood chips spawned in Spring, fruiting will occur in late Autumn and may take more than one season from the time of spawning!
Good luck!
inski..

Prepare for rambling for a few paragraphs, i assure you i am trying to be helpful.

I have been playing with subs for a while (2 sub seasons if you count planting them in mulch to spawn new patches in the first year) and so far have only succeeded in making spawn for outdoor patches.

I currently have a tub of mulch and cane straw that is colonizing,i used rotten subs to get mycelium growing, by pushing a handful of caps a two knuckles deep into the tub at various points.

I then covered this with cardboard (which you soak every now and then to keep the moisture up) to keep any light off of the surface Ala Undergrounder(at least i think it was undergrounder).

The plan was to wait a month or so and check for development and then mix it up, to distribute the mycelium, which is what I've done (the tub being presently more than a month and half old), it can take a little while to recover when you first disturb the substrate. Infact at the moment i can barely see mycelium apart from a few small fragments on wood-chips. (ill take a shitty picture later on)

I expect to have this colonize to about 60-70% before i try my next wacky attempt at fruiting subs, i tried putting them in the fridge and taking them out for light, and no luck.

So i was thinking and you will probably laugh(or a sigh), that i was going to cut squares out of the cardboard casing and get an overhead fluorescent for the tub. I was trying to think of ways that i could cool the tub down and make it more humid and i came up with one outstandingly silly clandestine idea. 2x a day i was thinking of putting a tray of ice cubes on the cardboard surface (leaving parts of the substrate exposed to light) and add holes in the bottom and drain excess liquid onto a tray (instead of having it gather in the tub and drown the substrate).

As i typed, it is a very silly idea.

So in summary, i have had some mild success, but like many have not produced fruiting bodies inside.

Ill produce some pictures to validate what I've been saying soon.

My apologies if i am at all incoherent or misinformed.

Cheers

A small update for anyone interested;

It is rather cold round here this time of year and i lack an efficient heat supply and as such, it has taken the sub tub much longer than expected to bounce back, some of the colonised woodchips are beginning to put out fine white feelers again, but nothing that my shitty camera is going to show up for you. for now.
