buying agar agar and gypsum

My friend wants to know if the agar-agar he is buying is ok for a base to make agar formulations ... the description of the agar reads "for microbiology, powder" This was the only agar-agar product on the site that seemed to be what he's looking for other than one that reads "Bacteriological, Microbiologically, Plant cell culture, Flakes ". Which one should he get? Also is the chemical name for gypsum Calcium Sulfate?

Either one is fine, but I would go with the powder.

Yes, gypsum is calcium sulfate.

Bacteriological agar is normally the highest grade agar.
WHich means that when mixed it will generally be the clearest agar when solid.
This helps when it comes to viewing the mycelium or noticing contamination.

It is for bacterial growth I would imagine.
