As more and more people visit us it is more and more important that we try to remain polite to one another. For some of you this may be difficult. As Moderators none us us wishes to use the 'heavy hand' but it is our job to make the Shroomery attractive to others. Have you ever gone over to a friend's house and their Mom and Dad started fighting? Or have you been in a situation where you were an outsider in a new situation and a fight broke out? It's not comfortable.
Currently we host at least two major groups in here, the believers and the skeptics. Both are welcome and without both sides it is impossible to have the free exchange of ideas that we have.
So I am suggesting that we all try to differentiate another member from their ideas. Attacking ideas is a lot different from attacking fellow members.
As none of us has Godlike intelligence we should be open to new ideas no matter how unreasonable they may seem to us.
This does not mean that the moderating will be any different than before because we favor free speech but it does little good to hurl insults at one another and it makes the insultor look small.
Thanks, and thanks for participating in the discussions!
I would just like to add that our differences are what makes us a diverse and constantly evolving community. By working together, despite any difference in opinion or belief... we will gain so much more. Keep an open mind, and let us interact in harmony. It IS possible to have an intellectual and stimulating debate that is a learning lesson for BOTH parties without resorting to petty insults and cryptic derogatory statements.
We have a lot of very intelligent people on this forum, which I consider to be one of the jewels of the Shroomery. (Of course I am biased ) I love this forum so much. Let's keep it a place based on free and open discussion of beliefs and philosphies where many open minded people reside. Being open minded doesn't mean you blindly accept anything you are told, just that you will entertain the notion.
One thing we know for sure, is that when diverse people are happy and enjoy working together, they will accomplish great things together.
