Nope, blow up the sun and its all over in 500 seconds - the second of the energy pulse and the 499 seconds it takes to reach us.
Compressing the sun to 1/10 its diameter in a split second would be a miniature supernova in our own back yard.

Well that's assuming you manage compressing it to 1/10 it's diameter. If the sun dissapeared into a black hole or something stupid like that, it would take 500 seconds for the Earth to fall into darkness. If the moon exploded, chunks would come raining down onto us, and oceans would flood the entire continent. I'm talking about all life being destroyed, not the planet exploding.

idk, pure speculation, i don't think either would be very healthy for us.

Its a thought experiment, we cant blow up the moon either

If the sun dissapeared into a black hole or something stupid like that, it would take 500 seconds for the Earth to fall into darkness.
With the compression that would not happen. In a split second, years upon years of sun energy would be released with a tremendous afterburn as inertia confines the rapidly expanding sun for quite a bit. Most of the sun's mass woulds be thrown clear leaving an undersized black hole-like object belching out radiation as it vaporizes.
That initial burst of energy flash-vaporizes everything on the side of the earth facing it and that explosion will rip around the globe to the dark side, destroying all.
Blowing the moon up would take longer to affect us, unless you use as much energy as you did when collapsing the sun.
Blowing up ze earth we can do, however *spoken with Dr Strangelove accent*

Blowing up the sun would be hard though
blowing up the moon is much easier.

Blowing up the earth is downright feasible, no need to take the hardware into space if we can set it up right here.
A one gigaton hydrogen bomb would weigh about 250 tons and be the size of a house. We as a species could cease our military efforts and use the money to produce deuterium and lithium on a grand scale, and put gigaton bomb buildings all over the world. Then, by an unified signal, set them all off at once.

Well is the goal to blow up the planet or destroy all life on the planet? I'm sure two moderate sized hydrogen bombs on opposite sides of the world would take care of the "existence" factor.

What would you call moderate? Two gigatonners couldnt do it. You could of course go for an upscaled Tsar Bomba and mantle it in cobalt for extra ouch, but still, it does not "blow the world up" merely disperse a radiological poison.
Blowing up the world takes a lot of power.

Blowing up the world seems like a little much,
total erradication is a much "greener" approach.
