Relaxation drink  is being called 'weed in a can'

PHOENIX - There's a new drink being sold in Arizona -- but why are people comparing it to pot? It's called Drank, and it's a 16-ounce soda drink that tastes sort of like grape soda.

It's the opposite of an energy drink. Drank calls itself an extreme relaxation product, so much so, that some have dubbed it "weed in a can."

Brandon Rycombel sells and delivers Drank to stores. He says, "I think a lot of people use that for stress relief. That's what we use it for."

It contains melatonin, valerian root and rose hips, a remedy that supposedly slows you down.

"In our day and age, we've got a lot of stress. The economy is bad. People need something to help them relax, bring them down," says Rycombel.

A spokesperson says it's an alternative -- not a substitute -- for marijuana. "This isn't going to get you into any trouble," says Rycombel. "You can buy it in the store. It's legal."

Adan Hinojosa says drinking Drank helps him sleep. "While I have never tried pot, I will admit that I know a few people who have used it. I'd say the comparison is as wrong as you can be."

Hinojosa drinks it 3 to 4 times a week. "There's no sensation of getting high with Drank. It feels no different than falling asleep under your own normal, natural mechanisms."

The can includes the warning: "This product may cause drowsiness. Not recommended more than 2 servings within a 24-hour period.

A Drank spokesperson says many evergy drinks with caffeine contain a warning label, which is a standard industry practice. He also says Drank has sold millions of cans with no reports of adverse effects.

A medical toxicologist says pregnant or nursing women, children and people taking medications should talk to a doctor before having the ingredient valerian.

i bought a can.  it costs too much.  it did make me sleepy but i've taken melatonin and valerian plenty of times in the past.  they should have put a bit of 5-HTP in there, too.

like i said, it costs too much.  i just bought it because it was payday and it looked interesting.  it didn't taste bad, either.  i was expecting the taste to SUCK because valerian is one stank-ass plant.


but if you collect funny cans, i recommend buying one.  it goes better followed by some beers.  or some DANK.

Get the deuce bombs...They are a concentrated form of the drink usually behind the arab counters. Drink 2 of them and smoke a bowl...You'll be out in 15 minutes.

i drank one and the valerian gave me terrible nightmares. not relaxing sleep at all. some of the most bizarre dreams i have ever had.

Ohhh.. Ive got a product idea for the pseudo-world I live in... Xanacola, am orange flavored soft drink containing 2mg alprazolam(Xanax) per can, with a small dose of kava kava and kratom to give it an extra kick.. :laugh:

i havent had it but i have valerian root. it smells like shit but it makes me sleepy. why not use kava? seems like a better idea

When I lived in Washington state, they sold kava "relaxation" drinks at the local dollar store. They were like .88 cents each, pretty much the same thing. Used to drink two and and take about 9mg of melatonin when I had to get to sleep. Pretty much the same thing, although cheaper.

And without the valerian root taste.

Or just buy those supplements separately and take them with water for a fraction of the cost in the long run. I take melatonin to help me sleep but also because it gives those bizarre dreams which I love.

ther is a drink that contains kava. its called "novocaine". its a yellow can the same size as the valerine root one.

Melatonin is not legal to buy over-the-counter in some countries, and, as far as I know, is the only legal hormone to buy over-the-counter.

There hasn't been much research on taking extra melatonin, so be careful with this. Personally I have pretty messed up sleep if I take melatonin. Not fun.

Probably shouldn't be driving after taking this, and don't forget to brush your teeth.

i got one of these before going to work once.  and i drank the whole can within maybe an hour.  i got real tired.  and here it was the same cost as an energy drink so it was fine since it was an anti-energy drink.  took like 3 naps that day.  but the taste really wasnt bad at all, just really grapey.  imagine the NO2 energy drink grape flavor.
