Amanita ID please

Habitat:
Found growing under a large oak in bark and debris

Gills:
Color white, attached

Stem:
Length 1 1/4", diameter 3/4", white , smooth fiberous, solid, thick
veil ring

Cap:
Diameter 1 1/2", yellow , smooth with small variations, convex

I've been reading (imagine that) and i think it's a sub species of the muscaria, the formosa.  Mostly because of the color and rings on the base of the stipe.  Would more pics help to tell the difference?

Amanita muscaria var. formosa is an obsolete European variation.

The red staining makes it one of the "rubescent" taxa.

Yea i was reading that, they are guessowii and some call it it eastern yellow fly.  I'm sure you know that...lol.

would you call it that?

Most all North american muscaria are now called A. amerimuscaria..,  guessowii is also an obsolete variation name.

I call the eastern yellow fly A. amerimuscaria f. "xanthous"

Yours are not them.:wink:

There are mixed reports of it containing a toxin in its raw state.

In other words, you have to cook it first before ingesting.

No, they are not active.
A. amerimuscaria lacks the red staining feature, other than that they do look similar.

Not only that but you would want to look for multiple "rings" at the base. Not just one. Muscaria tends to have around 3. Also the veil on muscaria doesn't contain any yellow color as yours would appear to have.
