Purging negative feelings
    #1079830 - 11/23/02 06:49 PM (14 years, 15 days ago)

About once a month I find it feels really good to take some time to think about the things I'm not happy with in my life and force myself to cry over them to relieve all the pent-up negative feelings from them. I notice that if I go a long time without crying these negative feelings build up more and more, and if I don't release them somehow it starts to interfere with the positive asepects of my life. I don't understand people who can just bottle up their feelings forever without getting majorly depressed or stressed out. Society paints a picture that says if we are crying there is something wrong with us, but it's really a natural thing that everybody does once in a while and should be expressed when needed.

I also think anger and violence are good to express to get rid of negative feelings, as long as it's not directed toward another person. There's nothing like smashing a bottle or screaming at the top of your lungs to let out your frustation at the world. Anger is also another totally natural emotion and I don't see a point in trying to supress it. It'll only lead to problems down the road.

To deny an output for your emotions is denying the fact that you're a human with human vulnerabilities.

Lachramology = the study of crying as therapy.

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

A flooding of the heart allows you to rise above previous emotional tide lines. Above and beyond the barnacles of the past. Setting sail into a heart that is free of debris, free of the definitions of the past...
What is good within you has survived the flood. What was darkened has been cleared and polished anew.

"Perhaps the most mysterious of TOOLs beliefs is that of Lachrymology - which can basically be described as the study of "crying as therapy". It's pretty safe to say that the band have made up Lachrymology to both entertain themselves and their fans, and to keep everyone guessing. However Lachrymology should not be dismissed as a stupid joke, because their can be much to learn from it. The general idea behind Lachrymology is the evolution of oneself through emotional and physical pain. The idea is not to inflict pain on yourself, but to learn and grow from the pain that has been inflicted upon you."

Max, maybe you can clarify this Kennedys lyric for me.

"Which came first, Max Headroom or Gerald Ford?"

I had always thought it was "mass headroom," but I guess you'd know better than me.

hello!!!!!!!!!
I believe you're defenitly right about expressing negative feelings with emotions such as anger or greef....
I used to study creative therapie with dance and movement. This is used for all kinds of people, but also for people who find it difficult to express there emotions.
But dancing can be a way of stimulating your body, mind and soul to let gow of all negativity. And you don't have to be in therapie to do this, you can do it by yourself, where ever you want...
This also exists in other art forms like music or drama,...........
(a lot of people feel that dancing is more for girls, witch might be true, cause we were an all girl class....too bad...)

Hehe, I got no clue about the lyrics. I was just thinking about the 1980s when I was coming up with a name.

That would explain why I feel totally energized and refreshed after a night out at a club. A lot of people are too shy to dance because they are afraid to express themselves. It's a wonderful feeling to let go in the middle of a dancefloor and let your feelings run free.
