Is this a good place to find Liberty Caps?

There is a place near my town that I think might be good for finding mushrooms, although I would like the advice of someone more experienced.
It is a woodland area but with several large grassy patches, and a field which looks as though it has been used for cattle (cattle gate, trough, etc)
Location: south England Elevation: 100 to 170m South-facing slope (I have heard they grow on south-facing slopes, although some sources say north facing) The grassy areas are riddled with rabits and rabit shit. I don't know if this is a good enough substitue for cattle or deer, would like some advice here. The grass is heavily grazed, in some places it is shorter than a recently mowed lawn. The soil is on a large amount of chalk/limestone.
Also, is it possible for them to be around this early (3rd August)?
Thanks in advance. P.S. I might be able to answer more questions about the area. Will take pictures next time I'm there and post them if that would help.

i just picked about 20 yesterday on some land just like this with many rabbit droppings in the north east england not sure if it was south facing but the grass was quite long as well. hope this helps. i havent managed to find many of these though this was the first i have seen so far maybe because of it being so early in the year.

I highly doubt that you picked liberty caps.

Actually a member on mycotopia apparantly found some in July of this year in Germany so it might be possible that Spawn0again didn't just pick Bolbitius vitellinus or Conocybe albipes.

Yes, I've seen the occasional lib found this month. Apparently, they're early this year, or the community is ignoring people like me and GK who insist that there are no libs to found in July and go out and look anyway...with success Anyway, the large harvests will only start in a month or two for the most of us.
@OP: There's only one way to find out: go out and look there once in a while. Don't put all of your money on just one field though.

Many of the accounts of libs already being found contain no pics and are made by beginners (or at least Shroomery n00bs), so I have to remain skeptic. The fact that I HAVE seen a few pics of solitary libs from this season doesn't change it. You'll always have a few isolated early fruiters. The exception proves the rule. I am not even going to start looking for them before the end of this month, because I have to drive 30 kilometers to get to my lib area and it's just not worth it doing that for maybe finding half a dozen.

Agree. I'm not actively looking for them. And I won't be until about mid September.

Nice finds TheYellowDart07!
I am amazed that a post that mentions Liberty Caps has a report and a new picture of some that look great!
Looks like the season is officially begun.

Nice man! I envy you. I am in Central Germany and I doubt that conditions are as good as in Scotland right now.

It's been a very poor summer here as well with lots of rain and cool weather so far, but I am in one of the mildest regions of Germany and I am pretty sure there aren't any in my lib hunting grounds yet. I might do a preseason check soon, though.

There won't be anything around here in NL for at least one more month or so.
Nice finds!

I don't think you found Liberty caps in Oregon on July 31st seeing they prefer cooler weather and It's been in the 90s and dry in Oregon.

Really? this seems very unlikely as here in portland the 2 or 3 days before the 31st almost broke all-time temp records topping out around 105-106 for 3 days. however i do know that they coast is very significantly colder than even 20-30 miles inland. Do you mind me asking what Town these supposed libs were found near? If you have pictures post them.
