Liquid Culture or AGAR?

alright people i got a question for you. what is better in terms of easiness and effectiveness, agar or liquid culture? i was thinking about using a honey liquid culture, because as long as the syringe is sterile, then there isn't much chance of contamination, right? this is apposed to agar where you would have to drop a piece into the jar in which there is a higher possibility of contamination? also if liquid culture is the way to go, then how long does it usually take to colonize 1 quart jars of rye, or wild bird seed? also can you use a liquid culture to inoculate another liquid culture?

The only right answer here is taht you need to try both and see what works with your style. Agar is more certain to get good results, while LC is a gamble. But LC is physically easier to manipulate.

This is the best I found. LC's can contam and you might not see anything, I've only had one ever go bad on me, but when they do it sucks.
Agar is just different all around
easier/risk, harder/reward?? pick.
This is a good mid-ground if you can get this started, if so stick with it. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=30&Number=6817701&fpart=1&PHPSESSID=

Agar and LC have different purposes.
Agar is used to clean up contaminated cultures to isolate pure mycelium away from contaminants, and to isolate individual strains from each other so you can develop spectacular fruiting strains.
LC is a method to expand mycelium. Unfortunately, it will also expand contaminants and you never know until you use it. RR

Physical handling, that's all. You can use a syringe and jars, no need for anything else. But as Roger Rabbit pointed out upthread, it depends on your goals as well. LC is good for some things, less good for others. Grain LC is a good compromise: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6817707#6817707
