initiate pinning?(pics)
    #1077485 - 11/22/02 05:17 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

I?ve given it the cold shock, and taken it out of the bag, and wanted to know how else I could inntiate pinning, and if I let it go too far? And I also wanted to show it off. So here it is! Whaddya think?

I have more, but I?ve reached my limit for today.
I will post more tomorrow.

I had it in a ziplock bag to keep some humidity in there, and put it in the fridge for 18 hr. But that was right after I cased, b/c I didn't know what I was doing. Should I do the cold shock again? And I only cased it in the mug. I used a combination of a buncha diff teks for substrate and started it in a 1/4 pt jar. Used Shroom Wizard's tek for casing, but in this instead of a tub or container. I got more small containers, with cased myc, but can't post em cause I reached my limit 4 today.

You cold shocked right after you cased it? Hmmmm...... you need to do that after the casing layer has been colonized. What temp do you have it incubating at?

Yeah I know that now, but I have it incubating at room temp, 72-76 and I can't do anything about it, and I know, I know, I need a heater and to construct an incubation chamber, and I plan on gettin an aquarium heater, but that'll be a couple more weeks. What till then?

cover the top with aluminum foil, put the whole thing in a ziplock, and place on top of your hot water heater, or your fridge. Why can't you get a heater for a couple of weeks, they're cheap, and unless pets are outlawed where you live, they're pretty easy to find.

I've been outta work for a while so I got no money, so bear with me. I never thought of using the hot water heater for a heat source! Why would I want to give it heat tho? I thought a drop in temp did it.

Ok, I just looked at the pic again, I thought it wasn't colonized, but it looks like its either colonized or contaminated by cobweb, can't tell cause of the quality of the pic. If it is colonized, disregard my statements about heating, the temps should be in the mid 70's to initiate pinning, What are you doing for humidity?

Its a contam that looks like thin, whispy cobwebs. Mycelium usually is a brighter white, and thicker than cobweb. I can't really tell from your pic, although it does look a little to bright to be cobweb.

well the more prominent white strands look like roots when I look at it,and the less visable white looks kinda like cotton, but but in a rooty sence, like there are a buncha tiny roots. Nothin looks real cottoney tho. Just like a buncha roots shootin upward.

upon closer inspection, it DOES look a lil cottony, is this bad? What does this cobbweb mold do? I started a batch outside and it looks exacly like this tho. I thought it was just mycilum. Is it harmful? And does the batch growin outside have this cobbweb mold?

it is soil, and the bottom layer is soil/verm 50/50. Mid layer being myc.

one of the main reasons is used soil is b/c it's easy to tell when it's startin to go dry, and plus, it was avaliable. I have verm, but it's not easy to tell when it goes dry. Don't have any peat: I'm tryin to stick with using stuff around the house. And I don't know what coco is.
