regretting tattoos

why? i mean, as long as it's not completely random or just for fun. if you originally really liked what you were getting, what's to regret later on in life? to me, it's like a lifetime scrapbook and i'm not the type of person to regret any memories. also, does un-tattooed skin really look that good that you'd regret having ink on you later?
obviously i'm going to get some good answers.. why else would i post this. it just made me think after reading reasons why people regret tattoos later. i just recently got into them and well.. not only do i think they look great but you only live once and like i said i could see it being fun looking back later on.
a friend of mine who did a ton of her own tats (a lot of them just random) told me she doesn't "regret" them because at the time they were something she really liked

Tattoos =/= memories.
That's cool if you used to be a Juggalo when you were 13, not cool to have a fucking Juggalo tattoo and call it a memory.
I can remember the worthwhile shit without getting it tattooed, this isn't Memento.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons you have to be a little older than 13 to get a tattoo.

That's nice.
For the record, I have tattoos, and of course I don't regret what they are, or what they represent - because, like was originally said, I was at one time very inspired by the meanings of the symbols. For the most part I still am.
I do think that a tattoo-free body is, in a timeless way, classier. But I've never been about class.

I don't have a problem with tattoos, but I can definitely see how one can be regrettable.

well yeah haha, it goes without saying that a good deal of thought should be put into anything "permanent".
and I guess another part of it is just trusting yourself and your interests, for better or worse.

I've got 8 pieces now. I've been adding on ink that I started thinking about when I was still a teenager.
I can imagine I might regret it one day, but the tattoos, aside from their specific qualities and content as art, are still important because they provide perspective.
Maybe when I start to regret them, I'll also stop and remember why I got them in the first place, and maintain a respectful understanding of my choices in the past.
It's like writing a journal. Every few years I'll reading through old journal writing, but just remembering who I was and what was important to me then provides a humbling lesson.
So yeah, in twenty years I might hate the fact that a pig wearing a derby hat, a monocle and a vest is covering my entire forearm, but I hope I'll remember that "Napolean" got inked in because of what it means to me now.

I'm thinking of getting a generic type tattoo with lots of open spaces that I can fill in the blanks with the meaningful things as I go along.

There are some times when I wish my tattoos could have been done better, and there are times when I think of what other tats I would want to put there instead of the ones I have now, but all in all, I'm happy with what I've got.

I've talked about this here before.
I've had + still have tattoos which have lost meaning to me, and infact the literalness (drug related) irks me a bit. Its a "what was i thinking" situation.
However, i take that for what it is + am planning on going in a majorly different direction than i had originally conceived, looots of coverage. The styles of tattooing i appreciate have changed ALOT since i first started wanting ink. I am becomming of the "all or none" and "i am a scrapbook" persuasion.
There's no use regretting it, and in mind, in most cases (or at least as it applies to me) tattoo removal is downright shameful.
If i regret my tattoos, i am going to celebrate the changes which have come about to cause that regret, and get another tattoo.
Being someone who is constantly contemplating considerable full body work, my main concerns are in regards to the effects my tattoos may have on my children, especially since i want to adopt.
I can only imagine it is harder to adopt being visibly tattoo'd and the stigma attached to a modified parent by teachers and other parents...
I am also concerned about international travel - not only with other countries, but dealing with customs and crossing boarders.
In reality, ill deal with it.
Better to live in the supportive subculture of a progressive community, or in the sticks, or on a boat anyways.
Homeschool ftw.
Ya know? - if your solid in your core, with a degree of certainty towards your desired future direction and the will power to follow through on your dreams...
You got nothing to worry about. It takes a special kind of person to get tattoo'd and keep cool forever, and we all know that person when we see them.
Just dont do it cause you think its cool. Find some solid reasons and weigh the consequences.
(i work with people with horrible tattoos, including a young girl with horrible tiny text on her neck... talking about regret...)
