Check this out.
It's about how Canadian college students don't know enough about geography and stuff, but it's also talking about Americans, who seem to know even less. There are a few key things in this study that blew my mind.
5% of Canadian college students could not locate the United States on a map of earth. Seems pretty high, right? Well, 11% of American college students couldn't do it. THAT'S ONE IN TEN! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!
Nearly a third of americans think that their population is between 1 and 3 BILLION!
I don't mean this as a direct attack on americans. This is a level of stupidity that is completely unacceptable for Canada as well, but come on people, 11% can't identify their own country on a map. Geez.

The poll was conducted in Washington. Washington is above Oregon which is above California, hence the extreme stupidity.

I don't know about that. There are several very intelligent people within the US. There are also the dumbest piles of flesh the world has ever seen within the US. Lets just hope the people paying attention are the ones making the decisions.

You always have to question these so called studies a little bit. But I dont doubt that it is true. What the fuck is going on here? Well people do not just care. Apathy is the way of thinking when everything around you seems to be fucked up. People dont care that they are dumb. The education is failing and failing bad, but you can see why this is true. We pay our baseball players and entertainers millions while we treat our teachers like shit. Most parents dont have time to spend with thier children and that leads to day care. In day care children learn less. But this is only because no one cares.

I find it hard to believe that the average population of the Shroomery is smarter than the average population of America.

just as I've always stated, the youth of today are dumber than a box of rocks (no matter what your political belief is). Maybe schools should start actually failing these morons and not give a shit about their self-esteem.
I heard this study and just shook my head. it's quite sad really.
But i liked the "we're stupid, but you're stupider" theme of this thread.

I don't. The fact that you are on a computer shows you are at least average, and this is a political discussion forum. To discuss anything you have to have some smarts between your ears. I will admit that geography isn't my strongest suit. I know the general area of all countries, but if I was given a map of Africa I couldn't name all the countries. I know North and South America well, and most of Europe and Asia. The former Soviet republics, Africa, and islands around SE Asia are a bit more difficult for me.

I disagree with that statement.

That would explain alot.

I bet the test was conducted with the bias of wanting to prove this sort of stupidity. I'm sure it is true to some extent, but not that much (I hope).
After all, I didn't take that test/survey. I could have raised the average!

****I bet the test was conducted with the bias of wanting to prove this sort of stupidity.****
how can "where is Canada located" be biased? I will be the first to admit that i am truly embarrassed but geography is geography....we have to face facts that our youth are not being taught logically, rather with a sense of entitlement to a diploma....
i wish schools would fail people that can't pass basic tests like this.
