birdseed like a rock
    #1075111 - 11/21/02 11:01 PM (14 years, 16 days ago)

done pc'n, i spent the last 20 min banging the pint jars to my hand...prolly bruised it, but anyhow...the birdseed is clumped, and i can't get it to break up, i wanna throw the SOB's out the window as far from me as possible, any solutions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

btw, my first time using birdseed, i wanted to compare colonize time/yield with rye grain...

peace,
ribbit

Throw it out the window, ditch birdseed altogether, use rye and toss in a little gypsum or even verm and call it good...

I have a feeling that you did not rinse the SHIT out of it. This may be news to you but there is a coating of SHIT that they put on the BS so that it doesn't mold and preserves it. If you don't wash it off you will have clumps. Your jars were not too full no?

pc'd for 70 min, i used the shroomery birdseed tek. 140 mL bs / 80 mL water..

i allowed the water temp to rise in the pc before putting the jars in.

eddited after seeing your post. your correct i did not rinse the damned bird seed off, i saw on another site that it was by preference and not necessary.

however, that is thee most logical, and im sure those bitches aren't coming apart.

thanks for the info!

>Did you also follow the rest of the instructions, where it says to shake immediately after the pressure has settled down?(= while still very hot) ?

If you did then your type of birdseed calls for less water.
