Desiccation of truffles / truffels - make sure
    #10747984 - 07/27/09 07:56 AM (14 years, 8 months ago)

Hi

I read through the forum for the info in the subject (all 2 pages of search results), but need to make sure.

Hoped to find tech, but there ain't one proven method, and the info i defragmented.

Is desiccation just drying supported by some dehydrating material, like rice?

what would be a simplest most achievable dehydrating material?

Would rice / bath salt do?

Fan or dehydrator work best. Materials like calcium chloride work better if the material is partially dry.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?

what kind of truffles do you have? damp rid is a cheap way to finish drying them....on top of a screen in a tubberware with the damprid in the bottom.... i heard you can reuse the damp rid by baking it....... dehydrators are worth the money, 30 bucks at walmart. dry in there and finish with the damp rid if u are a perfectionist or just air dry with a fan and then damp rid

Thanks for your answers.

This damp rid. No dictionary translates it directly into Polish.

But by the compund words, it is some powder which absorbs moisture. I will look for moisture absorber on a local ebay.

I suspect the only condition is non-toxicity, yes?

Calcium chloride - OK, I think it must be available nearby.

Dehydrator, I will wait until a bigger transport

What truffels? Philosopher's stones from azarius. I received today what I plan for two occasions: one this weekend and the other probably in at least three weeks. So the first portion can wait these few days, but the other - I am not sure. On the box it says "1-08" which looks like expiry date, rather near.

Anyway, I plan to work out a method of drying as the first step to growing. Honestly, when it gcomes to gardening, my mind goes blank, so it takes small steps at a time.

Concerning the answers in the other thread, thanks for the hint that moisture might harm the chips of the PC - I would not have thought about it. However, before I buy a fan or dehydrator, computer's fan from a distance should do the trick.
