    #1074778 - 11/21/02 05:38 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

OK, there is a patch of mushrooms growing in my front yard and i am wondering what they are... they are about 6 inches tall, with flat black caps that have lots of black liquid dripping off of them. it was a white stem that is pretty thick. i'm just wondering what these are out of curiosity. by the way, i live in northern california. Thanks if you can help.

Sounds like a rotting mushroom. 6 inches tall is too big for Coprinus.... So I'd say just some random rotting mushroom, probabaly too far from identification.

I've seen shaggy manes(Coprinus comatus), and inky caps(Coprinus atramentarius) over 6 inches tall. Your mushrooms are likely to be one of the 2 I would say.
