I found two of those today in Palo Alto.  They seemed really happy and in good shape despite the lack of rain.

I also found a pot farm, per usual.  Seems that I can barely leave my house without running across one of those.

Also I didn't find any ticks on me.  This is very rare when I hike off trail.  I think maybe tick season is over until it rains again.  Or maybe it was all the bug spray / tucking in my clothes.

Apparently there are white chanterelles coming up in salt point right now.  I might check it out Monday.

cant seem to find much fungus right now other than Agaricus augustus and various Shelf fungi.

the ticks are pretty bad here still, and my herbal anti-tick-balm recipe isnt complete yet.

lemme know if the white chants are popping up!

No.

I am always prepared to run though.

DEET works.  If you tuck in your socks and shirt, then spray mosquito repellent around the remaining openings, you are pretty mich safe.

Someone got a whole grocery bag full at salt point the other day.  He had to rake back the pine needles with his hands to find them.

It rained for a minute a couple weeks ago.  When stuff like that happens, it kicks off the summer boletes.  B. edulis var. grandedulis under the pines and B. barrowsii under coast live oak.

awesome pics. I've searched for some artist's conks all summer and haven't found a single one. What species of tree was it growing on? Was it growing in dappled sunlight or in full light?

Some were growing at the base of living Bay Laurel trees, others on fallen oaks & pines.
Usually in a spot thats shady, but sometimes with partial sun.

I still have yet to collect some to make for tea/stock, which I will be doing soon im sure, they are in good abundance.

Great to hear about the chants Alan, I dreamed about them by the masses last night, good luck if you decide to go Monday.

We could sure use another rain!

I'll keep an eye out for the boletes, but its pretty dry.

The chanterelles are out there

http://mushroomobserver.org/23519

I have heard that some people from santa cruz only collect them in the summer because they aren't all dirty like they are during the rainy season.

It was cloudy here this morning, which means that somewhere the fog drip mushrooms are fruiting.
