Colonizing Bags/Jars Underground Outside

Would this be feasible? I assume it would since mycelium grows there anyways naturally.
I would dig a hole deep enough to drop my Bag/ Jar in and fill it back in.
I also would probably find a spot that is decently shaded first and bury a thermometer, then check it at regular intervals during the hottest parts of the day.
I am hoping this will work!

I'm not talking about -Fruiting- them. Only colonizing the bags. I was hoping that I could do this as a security assurance that they will not be found.
I realize temperature control is not likely and rain may be a factor I need to protect them from.

If the temperature is fine, then I don't see why it wouldn't work. You'll just have a dirty jar/bag afterwards.

It's pretty hard to find an outdoor bed when you work it in with landscaping. The only time I will really have to worry is when they are actually forming the fruitbodies.

This is a bad idea. They aren't kimchi pots man, they are colonization jars and bags. Knock them up and leave them in your closet, a drawer etc. They colonize fine at room temp. I see no reason to do this. You can put them in a closet or something, hell leaving them out would be fine and still have colonization. Don't ruin your project.

Might get too cold underground and slow down the growth. Plus how are you going to know when the bags are fully colonized? Dig em up and check every week or so? Sounds like a lot more work than is needed.

That's very true. I just want to keep out of harm's way if something unexpected happens. As I said I will check out the temps first to make sure they will suffice.
I am gonna try at least 1 bag/jar for the hell of it as an experiment.
Nobody else has tried this then?

That cracked me up man.
If you are serious about this idea OP, then look into creating an underground climate controlled grow op. RR has a giant underground mushroom farm, so I imagine you can do something on a smaller scale if your interested. That would be gnarly.

A healthy dose of paranoia is always good, but that does indeed sound like a lot of work, and totally unnecessary. If your going to really go through with this idea though, it doesn't hurt to experiment I suppose, but don't expect success. Also, I would put everything in a plastic box and then bury that, having soil directly touching the bags doesn't sound too good. Or I suppose you could make a small square-shaped hole in the ground, and reinforce the sides and bottom with bricks so the soil isn't directly touching anything, and then cover the top with some kind of stone lid, and place things on top of that like flowers or whatever.
Better yet, just keep them in your house thats not too obvious and out in the open.
