Jar And Bag Recipes
    #1072782 - 11/21/02 04:02 AM (22 years, 2 months ago)

I just got my new pressure cooker. It is an All American #921.  It can hold 4-(?) gallon Ball wide mouth mason jars max, or 2-3 autoclave bags.  Before I was cultivating PF style with pint sized glasses and aluminum foil.  My shrooms would always come out rather small, but with a very high success rate.  I have done further research to find that cased grains, composts, and mushrooms grown with spawning methods tend to have larger fruit bodies and a nicer appearance. Therefore, I would like to step my mycological experience up to the next level by experimenting with different teks and recipes for use with large canning jars and autoclave bags.  My current experiment is with 4-(?) gallon wide mouth mason jars each with 3 cups of finch seed.  One jar has 1 cup of water, a second jar with 1.5 cups water, the third has 2 cups water, and a contamination control jar with 1.5 cups water.  They were all pressure cooked at 15psi for 1 hour, and inoculated with 3 ml of spore solution. Please post any substrate recipes, casing teks, or spawning tips, also indicate how well it did or did not work for you.
