Better nature: Canada or Australia?

Im thinking of moving to one of these countries.
I would move to US if it wasnt for fucked up laws and overpopulation...
So Canada or Australia it is. In Canada you can have 4 whole seasons, wheres Australia is always subtropical/tropical.
Both have a decent supply of chms , but its the weather/climate im worried about.
I want to move out into the country and have a large forest by my door or something, i want some land, some animals - horses cows chickens maybe, dogs and cats...
Have any of you been to these countries? What was it like?
Where is the cheapest land?
And its a bitch to get thro immigration laws in both cases but im a professional with post grad education so i should be able to get in.

I can't speak for australia, but i wouldn't give up Canada for anything.
I live about 3 hours away from Vancouver BC. Vancouver is a rain forest and bustling city with lots to offer, i live in a semi arrid desert with lots of claybanks, down the road in all directions are beautiful lakes for fishing/boating/swimming - we're a hop skip and a jump away from the rocky mountains.
Great mountain biking, hiking, camping + all sorts of recreation options.
Lots of people in the rural communities (im surrounded on all sides by small rural communities) who are living the dream with chickens and dogs and goats, etc.
Hunters, 4x4's, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, ice fishing, worldclass skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing...
I LOVE BC, lots of big mountains and lots of trees, however, in my circumstances, the city i live in is less than ideal as far as people is concerned, but its where i grew up, so of course i want to leave...
Depending what your looking for, id could recommend some areas of Canada to check out/research.

I am currently living in Australia and have lived most of my life in New Zealand.
Australia is a diverse country with a Tropical north, a desert interior and temperate forests in the south. I am living in Victoria at the base of The Yarra Ranges, we have snow on the mountains at this time of year. The people are good out in country areas, hardworking farmer types. City people I find to be a bit shallow, Look at Me syndrome. Wages are good and quality of life in general is very good. Land prices are very expensive close to the city but the further away you get the cheaper it is. Where I am living you could buy a 3 bedroom brick & tile house for around $200 000 Aud. Although I live a good two hours from the city of Melbourne.
I have never been to Canada but have met lots of people from there travelling through New Zealand, it sounds like a beautiful country with easy going people and a great landscape.
I for one think Australia has some Draconian laws and that is one reason to look at Canada, their Government seems to be a bit more innovative.
What about NZ? Have you looked into that? Beautiful country and very laid back.

Australia has 4 seasons but further south. Where I am we have temperate rainforest, native bush, snow capped mountains. Rivers lakes. Mushroom hunting lasts 5 good months here too.
Here are some pics...

You're probably not far away from me then. I'm right across the Canada border from Grand Forks, BC.
There's plenty of isolated parts in the US too. Here's a shot of our house in winter. We're the last place on a dead-end canyon road up the mountain, and our property borders national forest on two sides. I can hike from my backyard into 1.3 million acres of wilderness, and that's just on the US side. It's national park in BC too, which I can reach in one day backpacking through the mountains.
The mountain behind the house is my personal snowboarding hill in the winter, and my dogs and my hiking spot in summer. I can ride my snowboard from the summit nearly to my back yard without stopping, provided I don't fall down. RR

Depends what your more focused on...
Do you want an art scene and hip culture and good nightlife...
Or a small town with amazing kayaking/hiking/outdoors life...
Do you want to live in a city, or a town? Will your occupation be a factor in where you settle?
I Highly recommend going to the kootenays (BC) in particular the city of Nelson. Lots of hippies, good eats, shows, festivals, + a summer and winter outdoor activity wonderland, also very marijuana friendly - lots of lakes with small towns nestled in big heavily forested mountains. Lots of hotsprings too! Not much industry besides the saw mill though. - its personally my favorite part of BC.
Alberta is nice in the rocky's, but its all touristy in banff and jasper and super expensive to live. Oil drilling is the primary industry and therefore the "vibe" in alberta is of people with alot of ego and alot of money. Its pretty crazy, rednecks with big trucks doing blow - is the stereotype which is fairly accurate. - also, the prairies suck, unless your a farmer.
Manitoba and saskatchewan - i wouldn't even bother checking out. Nothing much special about them... Winepeg maybe, but its one of the more dangerous places in Canada.
Ontario - lots of industry, TONS of lakes + the great lakes. Different scene over there... i might end up there looking for work. Nothing too notable about it though...
PEI, novascotia, newfoundland - all amazing scenery, really small, not densely populated. Fishing is the main industry i believe... Worth checking out if your after nature. People have funny accents over there! - really simple, laid back lifestyle too.... I REALLY want to go east!
Also, the queen charlotte islands might be of interest to you - amazing old rainforest with a set of animals and plants unique to that location...
Sounds like your leaning towards Canada, so maybe that'll help you know whats up before you arrive.

I love the outdoors, so BC and Yukon are my two favorite places in Canada. I just wish the US customs service wasn't such assholes. The nearest hardware stores and lumber yards to me are across the border in Grand Forks, BC but every time I cross the border, I get a full search and the third degree because I 'went to Canada' for only a few hours. The bastards assume I've got a load of bud and the hardware/lumber is only a cover. My last trip took me three hours to get back in. In a way, it means they let the terrorists win on 911. RR

Australia is nice to live in.
Melbourne and Sydney however are becoming overcrowded.
Sydney has much better weather while Melbourne's weather sucks!!
Id probably live in Canada seeing as though you get 4 PROPER seasons and I grew up in northern parts of Europe so I know what's it like to be outside in -25 C. Plus Canada is so much bigger than Australia.
I guess if you like warm climate, then move to Sydney or Brisbane. If you like shitty cold climate (no snow) in winter and really hot 40 degree summer days then move to Melbourne.

Australia by a long shot. They have every type of environment you could want. Tropical rain forests, temperate rainforests, bush, scrub, desert, mountains, reefs. By far the coolest and most diverse country I've ever been to.

What puts me off of BC Canada is wastelands to the east and ticks (ticks still unconfirmed)
Australia - nasty anntidrug laws, and this dodgy rotten feeling - half the time my experience in AU was awesome, the other half was terrible, feel like giving canada another shot
Still plenty of time to think about this shit...

Oh yeah, ticks forsure. I can find them in my backyard.
I wouldn't worry about it, the bears are alot scarier - but still nothing compared to the vicious wildlife in Australia, snakes, spiders, sharks... vs. a tick?
Im not sure what wastelands your talking about.
