24 Hours of light detrimental? * 1
    #10723829 - 07/22/09 11:48 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Ok so when I initiated pinning, it was in the evening. So my 12 hours of light has been running from about 9pm until 9am.

I would like to flip flop that to be the dark cycle.

So the question is, will 24 hours of light fuck up the future pinning of my monotub?

I want to leave the light on from 9pm tonight, until 9pm tomorrow night. At which point I will resume a 12 on 12 off cycle.

Will this be detrimental or am I safe to make the switch?

I've done it with no ill effects.

I figured it shouldn't be a problem but I've put so much into perfecting the pinning strategy that I'd hate to fark it up for a stupid reason.

You don't want 24 hour light.  Move them somewhere else.  Mycelium needs to develop a circadian rhythm to perform at optimum.  Put them in a room that is exposed to normal day/night ambient light.  Darkness won't hurt, but 24 hour light will impede pinning later.

Ya sorry I didn't have time to search through 5 pages of posts about a full 24 hour light cycle. That wasn't what my question is.

An that quote doesn't really answer it either since that is in response to the above.

I'm just going to leave it alone since I don't want to risk it.

this is kind of a problem i have. My substartes get natural light from the window, but i work nights. get home around 1.30am and usually stil up at 6am so theres a very small dark period of probably of only 3 hours in my livingroom.

They do need a dark cycle whether it needs to be 12hrs is another story. I find 12/12 to work the best and easiest. Follow the pinning strategy and you'll be rewarded.

Hey, sorry I didn't get to the part where you asked about changing the light cycle over. No, it will not hurt them. Mushrooms aren't sensitive to "dark periods" the same way some flowering plants are.

Light is important to good harvests.  I've written plenty on the subject.  However, mycelium isn't sensitive to light the way mj is, so you won't get any harm from switching the cycle.  Either give them 24 hours of light, or 24 hours of darkness to get the thing switched over.

BTW... search with the "Trusted Cultivator" box checked and you will get much better results, the above was the first post.

Maybe try 24 hours of dark to change your cycle?

Darkness always seems to speed up growth for some reason as well.

But light is the least important out of the pinning triggers.

Most important pinning trigger is FAE (fresh air exchange)
