really cheap tek using household items?

It would be interesting to try and grow using only household items except the spores of course (and no, BRF isn't a household item..)
I was thinking one could do the pf tek, but substitute the brf/verm with used coffee grounds, and instead of using those specific 1/2 pint jars you could just use those food saver tupperware things or empty jars.
Rather than use perlite for humidity when fruiting, just use a towel (same fucking thing, holds moisture). You could sterilize everything in the microwave. After all, in theory microwaves can superheat water above the boiling point.
Any other ideas? This isn't meant to be ideal, just resourceful.

If "any grain at all" isn't a household item, you need a more nutritious household.

Yeah, if you're going to bother acquiring spores, getting a few things from a garden supply and a grocery isn't much of a stretch.

Who are you quoting? I mean, my bread has grains in it, but I don't have bags of rye lying around.

Why go out and buy BRF when you have used coffee grounds on hand? Why hunt down perlite when a towel does the same thing?
The idea was to get creative, but I guess I should have expected the "dont be a cheap ass!" responses. Its not about that. btw BoC are great.

I was tring to quote you, failed utterly.
Popcorn? People have used that. Really any whole grain can be used. As you find items in your cupboards, hit the search engine. You'll find that somebody has tried pretty much everything. It's all documented. If they never came back to finish- it didn't work.
Among the "didn't work" items, you can include Jiffy Corn Muffin mix. It almost worked. It sorta looked like it might work. But I didn't get mushrooms.

Well, you can be a cheap ass. You can do this for under $50, easy. Lots of people have. But the creative side is great. Like I said, check the search engine. If you find something nobody ever has tried, let us know.
I've always wanted to figure a way to do it with bread. Green mold grows on bread, I don't know why mushrooms won't.

A towel? I'm not sure that would work real well seems like it could not hold enough water and provide enough surface area as 4-5 inches of perlite. Maybe pumice stones?(similar structure) those are a household item to some people.

You should try your ideas, record your results, and then share the results with the community.
