Hi all. I have been to two different local head shops and they both carry a strain they call sporeal. I searched all of shroomery and couldn't find any reference to it. The guy working at one of the stores told me that sporeal simply means mushroom.
My guess is that it is the original strain found by Earle in Cuba. Does anyone else have any info? If it's not the one originally found in Cuba, then what is the name of the strain that Earle found?
Thanks :-)

I would guess it's just whatever strain they had available, so it's probably a bunch of different strains.

yeah but they sell other strains too. So it's like it's an actual strain. You know?

In that case sorry, I wouldn't know. I just thought the way that "sporeal means mushroom" would mean that it's just some random cubensis strain, whatever they have on hand, you know..

Earle did not bring an original strain from Cuba, He was the first to name and identify the species from specimens he collected in Cuba, two years later the mushroom was discovered in Tonkin (North Viet-Nam where it was named naematoloma caerulescens by Patoulliard. and it was also called Stropharia cyanescens a few years later from another region of the world by a third mycologist.
P. cubensis originated in Southeast-Asia. See McKenna's Food of the Gods book for further information.

I too have never heard a mention of this supposed strain of mushroom. Most of the original strains of cubensis originated in MExico around Palenque, and the Mexican state of Oaxaca and in Matias Romero where Poloock introduced the species and later dfrom the Amazon regions of Coloumbia biy the McKenna Brothers (Oss and Oeric and Irimias the obscure).

Then came the Florida to Texas strains and theninthe late 198-0s I brought the Aisan strains to the Americas and tot he rest of the world.
Soon the Burmese bubes from Yangon, Burma willbe avaialbe o the world in a month or so.

grow it, get good pictures, and be descriptive, post it in the hunting forum for an ID, then we'll really know what it is.
