Faceyneck, were those tubs MS or isolates?

Looks like his GT iso imo but I can't be sure...I remember reading a post from him saying something to the effect of "there's so many spores floating around my place that my iso isn't really an iso anymore"

Prof. How would you do this differently if you were using a SGFC (not with trays)? Would you cover all the holes? Limit FAE?
PS thanks for posting the vid for us visual learners...

I didn't like the 27 msg as much as the tall rectangular one. Yield was about the same, but the tub is bigger and bulkier. So for anybody starting from scratch, I'd suggest this isn't the right tub. But it'll work ok.
Hey Doc,
I was planning on going with the 27quart tub till I read this post. Any reason you like the tall rectangular one more then the 27quart besides the foot print being smaller?

The reality of the situation is that restricting fresh air exchange DRASTICALLY increases your chance of contamination. You can do a search around here on RogerRabbit's posts regarding "fresh air exchange" and "pasteurized substrate colonization." He explains it very well.
He also has demonstrated in his videos that there is no need to filter your fresh air during colonization - the colloquial "gas exchange" or GE.
As an experiment, I actually manually fanned these tubs during colonization:
Cased:

@Facey
I thought it was common practice to restrict FAE during colonization. Only limited GE.
Or does it depend on if its cased or not.. ie. 1. Cased monotub = ok to fan during colonization. 2. Uncased monotub = NOT ok to fan during colonization.

I can't believe anybody is suggesting to FAN during COLONIZATION.
It's absurd. Let the poor mycelium grow unmolested.

It is a common practice to restrict FAE during colonization. However, this is not due to any concern over contamination or anything like that, although it's probably written throughout this site that one IS to restrict FAE to avoid contamination, even though restricting either FAE or GE during colonization INCREASES the risk for contamination.
Just a little FYI.
I'm not really sure why most people restrict FAE, to tell you the truth. I suppose you could say the intent of the cultivator is what determines the purpose, but then you have people doing counterproductive things to avoid contamination. If we define the "why" based off of general consensus amongst the experts, then restricting FAE during colonization is to prevent excess moisture loss, and also to prevent the mycelium from consuming the substrate excessively before fruiting, saving more nutrients for the fruit production, although I'm not convinced of that one yet.
Anyway, no, it matters not if it's cased or uncased. Casing comes after full colonization of the substrate anyway.

You should believe that somebody is suggesting to FAN during COLONIZATION because I just read faceyneck suggest it.
I don't see how simply introducing fresh-air inside of a fruiting chamber that's colonizing a bulk substrate constitutes molesting growing or colonizing mycelium.

Hmmmm. I didn't catch the part of that post where facey claims that FANNING during COLONIZATION is RR's idea. I wonder what RR would have to say about that.

Such a drama queen. U knew I was back cuz the first thing I did was pm u dork. No I didn't enjoy my ban, mycotopia and shroomatopia are run by noobs. I finally had to resort to apologizing.
I think he would say "I said no such thing." That's why I was askin for the link.

i agree..if i hadn't found shroomery, i'd be so bored...it seems like they get maybe 2-3 post's a day on their site..
here when I have nothing to do (which is most of the time), all i have to do is press refresh and have 5-10 new threads to reply to
