Probably want to case it, I'd guess. Try it, let us know.

Not shown upthread- drill one hole in a bottom corner so you can drain after dunking. Tape it well to reduce chances of side pinning.

Will do thanks!! I'll probably do one CCV & the other in straw.
One thing, I read this about RR's Shotgun tek
"For this terrarium to function properly, you’ll want to have an ambient humidity in your room of 50% or greater. If you live in a desert or very dry climate, you’ll want to run a small vaporizer or cool mist humidifier in the room your terrarium is located to raise the humidity to 50%."
Is this the same with a mono setup? I live near Arizona & the RH here is fucked.

Colorado here. My humidity isn't as bad as yours, but bad. If you've grown a monotub before, expect it to be similar. Be prepared to run a humidifier if needed, especially if there's AC in the room.

Hey Doc, good stuff. You should try letting one of those tubs go full neglect (besides light). I'm doing similiar 12 quart double tubs and I'm finding that between dunks there is no reason to mist.

I've gotta disagree with this. Side pinning is much more about microclimate and less about light. The garbage bag is there to help prevent side pinning, I'm pretty sure the taping of the sides is of little to no benefit. Doc if you're feeling experimental, make a version of the tub that has no tape or garbage bag and let light hit the sub from all sides.

Hey Doc, that tub looks great.. I have a quick question for you though. During colonization, did you tape up the holes? Or simply put it in a trashbag 'twisted shut'?
thanks, -d

Doc you've already got a garbage bag lining the tub, what benefit do you think you're getting by duct-taping the sides?
Mycelium will pin and fruit from where humidity and fresh air is optimal, not just the spots where light hits it. We all learn this early when our PF cakes fruit from the bottom. Light hitting any part of a substrate effects all of it.
Do a side-by-side and see for yourself.

Have you considered that possibly he just prefers the aesthetics of it?

Tape stays whether or not I use a bag. I'm really just trying the bags out, it's anew thing for me. So far, I don't really care for it.

I have. Not "just" where the light hits it, but light and FAE and humidity are all triggers. By eliminating them all, I've reduced side and bottom pinning dramatically. Like, 90% by weight or more.

It's funny you are so keen on introducing your very own point of view to Doc_T. Like it would be bad (or less optimal) to have the tape there...
Light is also a trigger for pining. By taping the sides it surely reduces side pining.
