If u go msg (monotub shotgun) keep it in a humidity tent like DocT. I tried so many different variants of this style and the problem was always the same, too much up and down in the RH. The slightest air current will wipe out your humidity and you end up with pins just around the perimeter of the substrate. Wax paper helps, but still isn't ideal imo.
I was running them at an ambient humidity of 40-50. Doc's humidity tent keeps an rh of 80 or so by comparison.

I say again: I run them in room air as well, it just takes more water. But in the humidity tent, I frequently don't need to mist at all during the first flush.

Hey Doc! Just had to post some quick porn to thank you for the tub tek. So far this is the first and only success I've had with bulk!

FYI: I stole all my pix off google! F+ PORN! Here is a shit-ton of porn by yours truly!
I have FINALLY written up a couple teks as to how SHP has done things in the past. DISCLAIMER: This is not for the newbie to mycology, and not going to work for everyone! This is simply what works for one person when other teks and methods have failed miserably!

Woot!
What didn't work for you as far as bulk? What did you change besides the tub?

I was using rye to coir/verm before, myc didn't colonize properly...
this was WBS to straight coir
I just went wbs to poo/verm/gypsum in 4 mono's and attempting to go mono once more for simplicity's sake (didn't want to drill tones of holes), but i'm tossing out this tub after 2nd flush and will be making a new tub up when I get back into town.
I'm thinking next time this tub runs will be wbs to coir/poo/verm/gypsum

Well, I know this thread is an oldie but its a goodie.
It inspired me.. so I bought a container as close to Doc_t's container in his 1st post. Got roughneck plastic container..pretty much the same dimensions as the one in his post. It's translucent but tinted blue with a solid top.. shouldn't be a prob as I'll be using cfl's for light.
Just drilled it out with 1/4" holes 2" apart except for the 1st 4.5"
Pastuerizing 1/2 brick of coir as we speak then spawning 12 half pints to it as per what doc t did in the 1st post.
Wish me luck!!
So it's ok to put it in a garbage bag and tie it off if I open it up every day right? Becuase it's all drilled out.. the substrate would dry out while it's colonizing plus I want to give it extra co2

This is the tub I got
http://www.homedepot.com/buy/storage-organization-storage-totes-baskets-utility-totes/rubbermaid-4-75-gallon-roughneck-clear-tote-130109.html
Capacity (qt.) : 19 qt (US) Color Family : Blue Depth (in) : 16.15 in Height (in) : 10.23 in
I am using 1/2 brick of coir. I was going to use 12 half pints of spawn as per the 1st post in this thread (he uses 2-3 quarts).
Does that sound OK?

Buffer, Sounds perfect. I'm doing the just about the exact same as we speak, but mine is about 80% in the tub, looks good though. Good luck.

Well here it is guys!! I ended up spawning 10 half pints of Hawaii PES to 1/2 brick of pasteurized coir.

I also got these 2 mega-mini dubtubs colonizing nicely (Mazatapec spawned to zoo compost).

I posted the results a bit back in a diff thread but I figured i'd pop up a pic of the finished prod here from the Hawaii PES.

Hey Doc_T,
didn't mean to revive an old thread ... but...
I am about to do three different sized monotubs, and the 1st one that I'll be doing in 5 days or so will be like this-
Using Damion's coir tek and this, I want to try it with half of what you are doing it with here...
I have 12 1/4 pint BRF jars of Amazonian that I mixed up with extra supplies... didn't really plan anything out at the time, but I'd love to do a "mini-mini monotub", if you please, haha...
Specs:
SMALL MONOTUB (Recommended 4-5 gallon) 1/4 Brick of Coir (162.50 grams) 1/2 Quart of Verm 1.25 Quarts of Spawn (5 1/2 pint jars, or in this case 12 1/4 pints equivalent to 6 1/2 pint jars)
Do think it will work just as well if I copy you and Damion exactly, just on a smaller scale?
Lemme know man! Great teks too! I was a noob before I read your posts on here, and now im trying monotubs!

i just drilled two 28 quart tubs, one using this tek, and one using Morelman's Modified Monotub Tek. as soon as my Thai Koh Samui jars are colonized i will make a side by side comparision. the winning tek will be used to drill another 5 minitubs

ZAWESOME! Please post pics, make a separate thread and show it off. (PM me a link when you do, I'll be curious)
Are you using a clone culture? Or an isolate? Multi-spore genetics may not provide ideal info.

will do! right now i have Thai MS and few nice, rhizomorphic Ecuador agar plates, but i have never fruited them before so its kinda hit-or-miss i think. what would You suggest?

I'd suggest not changing plans at this time. Most strains are pretty well inbred and MS variation may not actually matter much. But when you get a nice fruit and clone it, that clone culture will give even more consistent results and provide a better answer. A pure genetic isolate makes it possible to get exact answers, but it's not always required for a useful answer.
