very nice, you have been experimenting with what i hav been, using 1/4 inch hoels instead of larger polyfilled ones.
Working great for you, now i know that i can add more holes, thanks

Did you have to add all the holes because of the size of the tub? or is that just a different way to go about it? Looks like a shotgun monotub type deal.

Exactly, a hybrid design. In an affordable, common container, with minimal work to build.
It's not that I'm lazy- I can work if I need to. But for me, part of the fun of this hobby is the completely random and arbitrary aspect of it. Growing mushrooms in some tub is way more fun than growing them in an automatically controlled environmental chamber. Plus, I have a few of the tubs around, I needed to do something with them.
And... no fanning. Put in one of those automatic mist bottles, and you could just walk away for two weeks.

Sounds pretty solid! I actually have the same container (I think. super small?) Maybe ill set it aside and give it a shot soon. I also have an oakridge print now that I think of it.
I have a question for you DOC, dont mean to get off subject but in using a normal monotub, where do you find the best place to store it during colonization/incubation? I had a cobweb problem and chalked it up to still air. Had kept my tub in a closet. Any thoughts or input??

It's a mid-size container, 14x9x12 inches the label says. Takes a half brick of coir.
Don't know about your monotub, the only one I grew before turned green. I've got one colonizing now, but it's just sitting here, I'm not doing anything to it. (I just peeked- looks good. )

Spawned on 6/29, exposed to fruiting conditions 7/8, harvest on 7/22.
So... three weeks from spawn to nom?
That LC will colonize a quart in 9 days, so you could do the whole grow, from syringe to harvest, in like 5 weeks. Without really working that hard.

Sweet. That is a pretty good flush than. Quick and easy, with minimal work! Damn, that is a good day.

I have 9 spawn jars colonizing, and as I told Doc in an earlier post, bought that same tub on his suggestion. I'm thinking this will be my first bulk substrate tek... perhaps I'll use the other 6 jars on a traditional monotub, see which one I like better.
Seeing 11 ounces from such a simple substrate... uncased CCV makes me wonder why I should bother casing the stuff.

It's not all dry yet, but it's going to be well over an ounce when it's done.
And if you think that's good, you should see the tubs with gypsum!

Do you mean that you mix the gypsum in with the CCV? I always thought it went into the simmering grain to prevent clumping, can you clarify please?

Both. Grain soak water, and then more in the bulk sub. It's an ingredient, not just a conditioner. It's even more versatile than that, as this poll shows.

Putting gypsum in when simmering seems counter-productive to me considering you're going to rinse the grains after simmering. I've been putting the gypsum in the jar, and shaking them up before PCing.
I know that gypsum adds certain nutrients, so it seems perfectly reasonable to add it to a bulk substrate as well. In fact I'm planning on doing CCVG on my first bulk attempt when the jars are colonized.
I think I remember RR saying he uses gypsum for every stage of growing, other than fruiting of course.

Aye, gypsum and coffee are like mycelium steroids.
If you tossed some in during the soak/simmer it could be absorbed into the seeds via osmosis though, adding that slight bit of extra nutes to your mix. Don't know how much it would help, but I can't see it hurting.
p.s. Doc I'm in love with this fc.
