Pardon my noob question but you dont case these little tubs do you? Is there a need to worry about overlay? If so what do you do to prevent / treat overlay in a FC like this?

I don't usually case. Overlay is a real thing, but it's rare. Don't worry about it with coir.

Would casing / patching with straight verm be ok? I know that verm for a plain casing is barely better than no casing? But would patching even out the colonization giving you that famous sea of mushrooms picture perfect tub?

Nice! Its amazing how mushrooms vary. This is the same size tub, i used 2qts of spawn. And i got the same amount of weight as you. But check out the number of shrooms you got over mine. Kinda crazy to think they weigh the same.

you picked those bad boys wayyyy to late haha. Unless you are shooting for weight and neglecting the psilocybin to weight ratio.
i was out of town when they matured. good thing i came home early...

I don't know it in gallons. It's the Sterilite 1896, the one that holds hanging files. I got a bunch for free, so I had to figure out how to make them work. But like I said, it's a half batch of substrate, so 4 quarts.
4 quarts(half brick coir) plus 3 quarts spawn and how ever much coffee and verm you added to the coir im assuming a 1/2 quart each?

2-3 quarts verm per brick of coir, and a pint of gypsum. No coffee. Is my current recipe. Makes two of the tubs.

Is this still with just 4 quarts water?

Yes. Seems like you'd need more with more verm, but you don't. More will be too much.

I had a contam storm and eliminated everything but sterilized verm. Finally proved it was the culture, even though it all looked good.
After that I have gone back to coir and gypsum but I haven't added coffee back. I don't know if it made things worse, but I don't really miss using it.

I got carried away with too many amendments for my substrate and I had some contam issues.
I am adjusting my sub recipe to...
Coir Verm Gypsum Worm Castings (Just a little bit)

I don't use castings anymore either. With only coir/verm/gypsum, I don't have to do a real pasteurization, I can just pour boiling water over it.

1 brick coir, 2-3 quarts verm, 1 pint of gypsum? Pour 1 gallon of boiling water into the coir, verm, gypsum mixture?

Yep.
I use the big block, so I do it by weight now, and the coir is pre-chunked. But it's all based on the bricks that we all start with.
