About to be spawned on Thursday. Multispore, but some healthy mycelium.

Can't wai to see the results. Did you do the CCV like in this thread? How about gypsum? I think a few pages back on this oakridge thread you said you left it out. Do you think it made a difference? -MYK

I've been using gypsum since I found out where to buy it. Coir, verm... I've been leaving out the coffee. We'll see.

Awesome thread. I noticed that you mentioned earlier that you thought it would work fine on a larger tub just with more 1/4" holes still spaced every 2 inches. I was thinking of doing this, but given that I live in a rainforest with a ton of natural mold spores floating around, I'm hesitant to leave the holes open like you have for fruiting... What do you think about putting micropore tape over the holes? I figure this would allow for more FAE than polyfil, with maybe a bit less filtration, but closer to the system you've got going... I guess I could just give it a try and see what happens, but I am curious to know what you think, in case for some reason it's essential to leave the holes open... maybe this tek is for people who live in deserts, not rainforests?

No tape- fresh air is your best defense against molds.

No way... that's awesome Doc, I'll give it a try. I always thought it was safer to keep the holes filtered! Thanks for that. I also did search for a second opinion (although I don't doubt that you know) and found a TC named Creamcorn saying this: "molds typically won't grow when there's a good supply of fresh, moving air." Case closed. It'll just require a lot more misting, that's all!
I don't know what I'd do without the shroomery. Actually, I do: back in 1996 I tried with some spores and one photocopied page of instructions. I actually got pins before contamination got it. Is it ever nice to be in 2010, and able to consult with seasoned growers in this place to learn how to do it right!

I think you might need one, depending on airflow in the room. Oscillating fan on timer, not pointed right at it.
In my utility room- no fan needed.

How do you regulate the water content of the coir/coffee/verm substrate? That's the hardest part for me, since coir comes in unevenly sized bricks, I can't just follow a formula. Do you just do a squeeze test or something? The more details you can give, the better.

The bricks are close enough to the same size. Add one gallon of water per brick. Don't go over that amount.

Doc, What is an average time from introducing fruiting conditions to pinning? I started my very first tub 6 days ago with KS and no pins yet. Am I being impatient?
