yea, it could, just make sure you use a peice from the inside of the cake. the outside it covered in bacteria and contaminants. make sure you have a clean area to work in, since you'll have to open the lid on your sterile container to put the peice in. If you try it, let us know how it goes.

I agree with link, it should work fine. You might want to liberally spray the cake with H202/water mix before, this may help with contamination.
