4 Colonized jars, Questions
    #1070786 - 11/20/02 05:56 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

Ok, I've got 4 jars that will be hitting 100% colonization, two probably tomorrow, the other two by friday. Friday will be the last day I can watch them for 1 week. What should I do?

I'm thinking neglect tek for two of them - just stick 'em out on a counter so they get light during the day and wait for the magic to happen. However, I've also considered Chronic Tek for the other two.

What do yall think?
1. Could I birth one or more, use Chronic Tek, and let sit unattended for a week with no danger?
2. Could I leave them alone for a week and still birth later? If so, what condition should I store the ones I plan to birth?

Thanks for the help.

Stick the jars (half pint?) into ziploc sandwich baggies or whatever else type of sealing bag you can get, and put them in the fridge. If you cannot put them in the fridge, just leave them at room temperature inside the jars - they might invitro pin but they aren't going to rot or explode the jars or anything heinous like that. Plus its always more fun to watch mushrooms grow. If this is your first time I'd definitely recommend waiting.

Just leave the dang things in the incubator and deal with them when you get back. There is no need for refridgeration. It's a good idea to leave your jars alone for a week after they reach 100% colonization anyway. So your timing is perfect. Have a good trip, your kids will be fine!

i would agree with fred, i normally let me colonize even if it looks 100%, just to fill up more in the center, and make it stronger. i leave mine in for a week sometimes 2, ive never had a problem with them either.
peace
