Hi everyone,
I am relatively new to this site as well as the forum and the whole posting and replying (haven't quite figured it out) so please bear with me.
A friend of mine introduced me to the idea of cultivating mushrooms as a project and at the time, it sounded far more expensive to be worth all the time and trouble. But after spending about two months on here and reading guides, posts and comments, I have finally decided that I would like to become a mycologist and discover the beautiful world for myself.
The only problem is, being an apprentice at this hobby and getting ready to start my first project, I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate feedback from all of you to help put my fears, doubts and paranoia from failing the first time.
I have decided for my first project, Im going to do some BRF cakes via PF-Tek and Rye Grain Tek for casings. I have the recipe for PF-Tek but not for Rye Grain
Question 1: I would like to use quart jars for spawning the rye grain so that I can do G2G spawning and casings for bulk growing techniques. Being a noob, should I do smaller jars like half-pints? and if so...can I inoculate them in the same fashion as the PF-Tek? And how much syringe spore solution is used in a half-pint versus the quart?
Question 2: For the bulk growing casing methods I have seen, they all seem to turn out quite well and flush even better....using quart jars to store my casing mixture until use, does anyone know a good recipe with exact measurements and ingredients(common names for the product used) and where to procure them from?
These are the only questions which I have been able to think of right now, but I'm sure more will arise. Thanks again for your time and patience with me as I delve into this project.
My email address is Apocalyptic_Atrophy@yahoo.com, please feel free to add me as a friend, would like to meet some expert mycologists and hear what you have to say about your experiences.

#1: Quart jars are fine; I personally use pint jars for grain. I noc 1cc of spore solution into any jar no matter the size. I have used 2cc and 3cc in the past just to see, and the colonization rate seemed to be the exact same, if not even a little slower.
#2: http://www.shroomery.org/5219/What-different-casing-layer-ingredients-are-there -- note that the casing layer is *not* what will be in your jar (which is called the substrate), it's the non-nutritive layer atop the substrate. Anyhow, that link has pictures and further links to the individual casing mix teks.
Have fun! =)
