Printing in jars?

I just thought of an idea to reduce contam risks when printing:
1) Take shroom, remove stipe / stem, place in sterilised PF Tek jar
2) stick small bag of desiccants to the inside of the lid (so the shroom doesn't rot since the jar will be sealed), seal the holes in the lid with masking tape and close lid
3) Wait for 24 hours (or however long printing takes), open lid in clean environment, remove shroom and dessicant. Close lid and store. You now have a (presumably) clean spore print at the bottom of the jar.
4) When a syringe of spores is needed, just fill the syringe with sterile water, poke it through one of the holes in the lid, and empty it into the jar, mix and suck back into syringe. Voila! A spore syringe.
I have never done this, of course, and I just wanted thoughts as to whether it would be better than the normal printing method, since it takes a step out (printing to paper then moving spores from paper to jar) and thus reduces the likelihood for contams mixing with the spores, and IMO makes the whole deal of making a syringe easier. (just because I think paper prints are difficult to handle). It is marginally more difficult to store than prints on paper (takes up more room), but only marginally so. Of course, it only works if you're printing for your own use. Shipping a jar would be a right pain.
So: Is this workable? Is it an improvement on the traditional process? What are the likely risks?
(FYI, I do intend to try this as soon as my first shrooms start coming up. It'll be at least another fortnight, though... )

Doesn't sound half bad, but I see a few flaws. Flaw #1: When you suck the solution from the jar into the syringe, air from the outside will go into the jar, so there needs to be a filter, or syringes can only be filled in a clean area. Flaw #2: How do you seal the hole without letting in contams, when you pull the syringe out?

First off, you don't need to add desiccant.
I tried this, didn't like it so much cause I found most needles were not long enough to reach the bottom of the jars, but maybe you can do it better, good luck.

I dunno. I thought this would be a problem however you made your prints, though... I suppose you could stick filters over the all the holes instead of just masking tape. Would that work? At least it would prevent the larger particles from getting in (i.e. no worse than normal methods). Otherwise I'll have to use a HEPA filter to clean the air beforehand.

Yeah... um... I guess this means it'll be a "one off" syringe making method (I guess making more than one syringe at a time might increase contam risks), though you could stick a filter over the hole before punching through it. I still think it's better than using a shot glass.
Skikid: Rats. I guess I'm not the trailblazer I thought I was! Wouldn't tilting the jar have helped? Or do the spores really stick to the jar / clump together that you have to suck them off the bottom?

When I tried it, they stuck to the bottom pretty good, but I think the cap may have been real wet (it was a wild shroom).
I mean it can be done, you're just gonna have to tinker with it a whole lot to get it right. Good Luck, and if you do get it right, post your methods.

It would be real tough for those of us who like to do isolations in agar(reaching to bottom of a jar with inoc loop ) , getting the cap back out of the jar with out touching the side walls (leaving contams behind ) , even if making a syringe this method has a lot of troubles, many of which were mentioned already . If looking for an alternative to foil , wax paper , typing paper , go with a petri dish . Harvest cap as sterile as possible , lay cap in dish , cover with petri lid , after 12 or more hours , lift dish lid and all , view print in process , when dark enough remove cap , put lid back on and seal with tape . Date and label the petri lid with black marker . The only flaw to this method so far is the outer surface of the cap comes in contact with the lid of the petri dish . Good Luck
